The Next Day
Dee lies on Key's bed, her phone in her hand. He goes in and out of his closet, pulling out pants and sizing them up in front of the mirror. He goes back inside, and comes back with two shirts, missing the third that should be on his body. 'Eeeeeewwwww!' she exclaims. 'Put somethin' on that bird chest.' 'Tuh, that ain't what my baby mommas be saying.' 'They lyyyinnnggg!' They both laugh. She points to the black and lime green shirt and he starts to put it on.
She returns to her phone, picking up where she left off.
deetranada: i'll be back at some point
therealestnova: don't be up there talking bout me
deetranada: and what if I am?
therealestnova: then imma have to handle that ass when I see it
deetranada: 😑😑😑😑😑😑😑😑😑😑
therealestnova: 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
She laughs again, typing quickly on her screen. Key puts on his chains, watching her. 'You always cakin' with somebody.' 'What? No, I'm not.' 'What happened to 'spend time with me meatball',' he says straining his voice. ''Everybody irky, let's go upstairs.'' 'I don't talk like that.' 'Don't matter, you still said it.' 'Ughhh, fine!' She tosses her phone to the side.
'Good.' She shakes her head, unable to stay mad at him for long. He attempts to fix his hair, messily twirling and fluffing the wrong pieces. 'Boy come here 'fore you walk out looking stupid.' She scoots to the edge of the bed and he sits between her legs on the floor. She picks out pieces and twirls them, reshaping his high top. The television murmurs lowly and the absentmindedly laugh at The Amazing World of Gumball.
'I miss you best friend,' she says quietly. 'I miss you too.' 'You always be leaving me.' 'You always be replacing me.' She stops, his words piercing. Replacing him? Replace my best friend? The first person to let me be real with him? He kept everybody off me and let me open up first. How could I ever replace him? She wraps her arms around him. 'I'll never replace you, meatball.' 'Better not.' 'You always gotta ruin it.' 'And you always taking forever, hurry up my ass hurt.'
She chuckles as she finishes his hair. He gets up, examining it. 'Boy stop, you know it look good 'cause I did it.' 'Yeah, I guess you did that.' They start their handshake, dabbing, b-more grooving and ending with fours. He takes out his phone and starts taking pictures, squinting his eyes slightly and licking his lips before each snap. 'Stop acting like you light skin nigga.' He laughs loudly ruining a picture.
She takes his phone, squatting for the perfect angle. He poses and she immediately starts gassing him up. 'Oooh get it, meatball. Yeah hit that, hit that. Nah the other way, yeah yeah like that. Oooouuu somebody tryna pull all the broads today!' The sound of a car door slamming startles them and fear washes over their faces.
They run downstairs but it's too late. Mama Key enters, her tired expression quickly turning to anger as she takes in the teens sprawled over her living room. 'Keon you better get all these damn kids out my house. You said some not the whole damn crew.' 'We leaving now ma,' he says, motioning them out. 'Love you!' He gives her a hug and a kiss. 'See you later, ma!' Dee adds. 'Next time you better let me know!' 'I will!'
Everyone is buried in their phones by the time they reach them. 'So what we gonna see?' 'Split if it ain't full,' Peach says, her face still buried in her phone. 'Drop me off on the way Latto?' 'Nope,' Latto says quickly. Uhh...okay. 'Nov? You drop me off?' 'Nope,' Latto repeats. 'You not leaving.' Dee is shocked, her eyes widening. 'Excuse me?' 'You not 'bout to keep dipping on us all the time.'
