(Nova POV)

Nova paces the room, Ekko listening intently on the phone. Nova bites his thumb, his mind racing. She has to be home, her mom work tomorrow, they not gonna stay out forever. She's not supposed to leave 'til next weekend. What if she was in an accident? What if she ran away again? What if-- 'Aight, thanks Lexy.' Nova spins around.

'What she say, she okay?' he asks, Ekko barely off the phone. Ekko doesn't respond, lightly tapping his hand with his phone. He starts to speak then stops as if there aren't words to describe it. Nova feels a rush flooding him, his heart beating rapidly, his hands sweating. 'Please, what's wrong? Just tell me,' he pleads.

Ekko puts his head down, rubbing his forehead as if he's unscrambling the words. 'Lexy not sure, nobody's sayin', I have to call her mom but...people are sayin' she tried to commit suicide again.' An instant sickness falls over Nova, his body aching, his mind freezing, his stomach hurling, his lungs refusing to work.

'No,' he mutters. 'No, no, why would you say somethin' like that?' he exclaims. Ekko stands, attempting to calm him down. Nova moves, resuming his pacing, biting his nail as he mutters aloud. 'No, she wouldn't do that. No, no. She couldn--' 'I don't know Nov, Lexy talked to Latto and she's been with Dee since it happened.'

In an instant, Nova races past Ekko, reaching the hallway with ease. Ekko catches up to him, blocking him from the door. 'No, you're not leavin' this house,' Ekko states. 'Move. Please,' Nova pleads, his eyes raging but glistening. 'No, you not goin' over there,' Ekko repeats. 'Move!' Nova yells, attempting to get by him again. Ekko stops him, shoving him away from the door. 'No!' Ekko yells, his veins bulging. 'It's done, it's over. You don't go anywhere near the girl again.'

Nova looks away, his jaw clenches as she tries to fight back tears. He huffs, his demeanor shaky. 'How could you, Nov?' Ekko asks. 'It's your fault I wasn't there!' Nova yells back, walking away. Ekko follows him, 'You can't blame me for this, Nov. I didn't do whatever the fuck it was you did. I kept you away to help you, both of y'all.'

'Guess you fucked that up, huh?' Nova says spitefully, opening the door to his room. Ekko follows, not letting him get away. 'You're not leaving,' he repeats. Nova ignores him, grabbing a sweatshirt and sitting to put on sneakers. 'I need to be there,' he says as he stands. 'You really think you wanna be there? Her mom, Jermaine, hell probably her whole family. Sittin' there, waitin' to see you, blame you?' Nova clenches his jaw, frustrated with his truthful statements.

'I'll talk to somebody, try to. See what I can do but right now, this is for your protection, understand?' Ekko holds out his hands, waiting for his keys. He reluctantly drops them, covering his face. Ekko gives him a small hug but it does nothing to ease the multitude of emotions rushing through his body.

He sits, waiting but with no indication of what he's waiting for. Finally, he stands, opening his window and climbing out. He sits on the ground, closing his eyes. Memories of the few times she came back with him, sitting outside of his window as they drew on the stars, talked about their fears and showed affection in ways that surpassed any other form of intimacy. He sobs, letting his head fall back as the tears take over.
