Saturday
(Dee POV)
Dee poses for a final shot in the hair salon before standing. 'Thank you,' she says, waving to her beautician. 'You're welcome, make sure you tag me when you post.' She nods, starting to the register to pay. Ebony meets her, pulling her card out instead to pay for the bill. 'No, I got it,' Dee insists. 'Hush, it's your birthday,' Ebony replies, signing the receipt. Dee smiles, hugging her tightly. 'Love you, sister.' 'Love you too, sister.'
In the car, Dee taps the dashboard frantically, the traffic nearing a standstill. 'Oh my god, I'mma miss my whole party,' she complains. 'You got three hours, calm down,' Ebony explains, her tone soothing. Not if these people don't move out the damn way. 'All you need to do is sit and let everybody spoil you.'
She let's out an exasperated sigh, getting on her phone. She smiles as she scrolls through her tags, most from fanpages tagging her in their outfit inspirations and preparing for her birthday. She sees a tag from Ki amidst her notifications. She clicks on it, letting the video load. It's a slideshow of pictures from elementary school to her last say in Baltimore. She smiles, the memories with each picture, each video reminding her of good times.
She reads the caption, her heart feeling overwhelmed. It reads: My hitta 😙😙 We may not be thick as thieves anymore but know that I'm always thinking of you and wishing you the best. Love you boo and Happy Sweet Sixteen 💛💛💛.
'Aawwww,' she coos. 'Look,' she says, showing the phone to Ebony. Ebony watches, smiling as she reads the caption. She hands the phone back, nodding in approval. 'That's cute.' Dee smiles again, liking the picture and commenting back. The car finally eases out of the thick traffic. 'Did uh, did Myra do one too?' Ebony asks hesitantly. Dee can can feel her stealing glances as she grimaces. Still time, it's not even really ya birthday yet.
She puts on a fake smile and replies. 'Not yet, she at work though.' Ebony nods, clearly holding back a response. 'Plus it's not even my birthday yet,' she qualifies. Ebony nods again, 'Yeah, she's probably just busy.' Dee looks down at her phone, seeing Myra's most recent post about a guy she's seeing. Yup, busy. She scratches near her wrist, the feel of the cool metal of her watch slightly relaxing.

Dee laughs, doubling over at her friends reactions to her outfit. 'Yesss bih,' Peach yells, her phone out recording. 'She up here tryna snatch wigs and shit,' Jae adds to her own video. Dee laughs again, covering her face. 'This beat though!!' Latto yells moving Dee's hand to record her face. They so damn extra but I love it.
She readjusts her sports bra, making sure that she's still covered. Her pale pink jumpsuit hangs off of one shoulder, her wavy weave swept up into a half up/half down style.
'Stop lyin' to that girl, she out here lookin' like a Barbara the Builder,' Mani interjects with a smile. Dee stops laughing, her face immediately serious. 'Shut up, Mani. You not even funny,' she retorts, crossing her arms. He laughs, 'I'm kiddin' man damn, you cute or whatever.' He looks away mumbling to himself. Nope, don't care.
She hears a loud voice yelling her name and turns with a smile, instantly knowing who it is. 'Sissss!' she yells, walking to meet Lexy halfway. They squeeze one another before separating, a smile on both faces. 'I'm glad you came, Nov was sayin' you had plans.' 'What?' Lexy asks. 'He lied, you know I'm comin' for my lil' sis.' Dee smiles, accepting another hug.
