Early The Next Morning

The airport is buzzing, families and groups of undergrads rushing with smiles to their vacations. Dee sits in a small restaurant, her headphones on.

'Then we came back and that was it.' She explains to Latto via FaceTime. Latto looks back, surprised. 'I feel like shit though, how am I supposed to look her in the face knowin' what we did?' 'Dee!' Latto exclaims. Dee winces, removing an earbud.

'No man, never. We just kissed.' So damn much. 'Better have been just a kiss.' Dee rolls her eyes, finishing off her sandwich. 'One kiss shouldn't cause too many problems though.' Dee's eyes widen as she looks around for a trash can. 'Okay, a few kisses is pushing it.' Latto proposes.

Dee clears her throat, cringing. 'Dee are you serious?! I told you make up with him not suck his face.' 'And I never would've have had the opportunity had you not locked us out all night.' Dee starts to stand, tossing her garbage and grabbing her bag.

'You betta be glad I'm not there, I'd pop the shit out of you.' She laughs, 'Why you think I waited to tell you.' Latto shakes her head. 'Is he gonna tell her?' 'Nah, I don't think so. He said he loves her.' 'Obviously not if he throwin' away two years like that.' Dee stops in her tracks, pulling the phone closer. 'Two years?!,' she yells.

A few people turn but she speeds up avoiding their stares. 'Oh my god, I'm so fucking stupid. I'm just not speaking to him all week.' she says. 'You can't ignore him and think it's gon' go away.' 'Bet.' Latto face palms, unable to get through to her. 'Fine. But don't be calling me when shit pops off.' 'Nah, I'll FaceTime you,' she says with a smile.

They say their goodbyes as she nears the terminal. She sees them all with their managers, a giant group taking up two facing rows. She takes a deep breath. Time for your walk of shame. She lifts her head, starting toward them. 'Morning,' she says with a small smile. She gets a variety of responses but continues to the end, finding a spot against the wall. She sits against it, slipping on her headphones and tuning out the world.

Nova watches her pass by, his smile dropping as she passes him without acknowledgment. She sits away from them all, her headphones on and her eyes closed. He takes out his phone, concerned.

Young Gawd: Morning princess 😚

He watches her check the notification, hesitating before responding.

Babygirl 😜: Morning Nova
Young Gawd: What's wrong princess?
Babygirl 😜: Just tired
Young Gawd: Long night huh 😏
Babygirl 😜: Don't you think you should be clearing out ya messages for wifey?

He frowns at the mention of Nia, his anxiety about their eventual meeting already heightened.

Young Gawd: I'll take care of that after I take care of you
Babygirl 😜: We good over here, nothing to take care of
Young Gawd: Did I do something? You mad at me?

Babygirl 😜:  I'm not tryna get caught up in ya foolishness Nov, do what you said you would last night

He looks at her, her eyes closed and calm as if she didn't just say what she did. He frowns, putting his phone away. I knew last night was a mistake. But I couldn't...fuck. 'I'll be back,' he mumbles, standing. He passes through the group and makes his way to the concession store. He surveys the items, his eyes locking in on the perfect things.
