It’s been two days since the incident with Shadow. I couldn’t stop thinking about her. I dreamt about her and her face haunted my thoughts. For some reason I wanted to go see her, but if what she said about her brother was true then I definitely didn’t want to meet him. I kept fighting the urge almost every hour and finally I couldn’t take it anymore. I had to see her again. Lucky  my parents and Daren left to go get groceries and Sarah was talking away on her cell phone, painting her nails and listening to the radio. I walked out the cabin and made my way to the woods.

I tried my best to remember the way to Shadows cabin but after walking around for twenty minutes I felt completely lost. I hopelessly wondered around hoping I would find something that would remind were I was so I could get out of this labyrinth of trees. Then I heard what sounded like people screaming and made my way to the voices. Normally I would never go anywhere if I heard people screaming, I was lost so I had no choice. As I got closer I could see Shadow cabin ahead of me and I scurried behind an oak tree and peered around the side. I saw Shadow and a tall brawny guy storming around in circles.

” I can’t believe you brought someone here! What if he tells someone about us”! The guy yelled at Shadow.

“Brian would you let it go. He swore he wouldn’t and he did help me, if he didn’t I would’ve gotten caught”! Shadow screamed back.

I noticed that Shadows leg was almost healed even though she still had the scar. Brian had scales from his neck down with very few small patches of normal skin. His scales were all dark, dull colors from greens, blues, black and grey; he was also wearing a pair of black swimming trunks

“You were with this guy for like what…ten seconds and you already trust every word he said to you”. Brain yelled frustrated.

“Kind of considering he helped me, didn’t freak out when he saw me and didn’t leave me locked in that bathroom and sell me to a bunch of scientists”!

“So what Shadow! That jerk probably did it on propose so he could gain your trust and then sell you”!

“Can you just chill for one second”. Shadow begged Brian. No! I don’t want to talk about this anymore”! He barked shaking his hand in the air at Shadow.

“Fine be a freaking jerk then”. Shadow yelled at her brother as he raced off into the forest and disappeared.

Shadow started pacing back and forth mumbling something to herself.

“Hey Shadow”. I whispered. Shadow jumped and began to scan around to find out where the voice came from.

 ”Who’s there”. Shadow called out.

“Over here”. I called to her.

She saw me peaking from behind the tree and took a quick look around to see if her brother was still around. She quickly came towards me.

“What are you doing here…trying to get yourself killed”? She asked hastily.

“No…I just wanted to see you again”. I answered her.

“Ok you came and saw, now go”. She told me as she quickly waved me good-bye and started to move away. I quickly grabbed her wrist and kept her from leaving.

“Come on...can’t we like…hangout or something”?

“No”!

 “Why not”?

“Cause you’ll get killed and how do I know this isn’t some trick”.

“If it was don’t you think you would’ve been in a lab before now”?

“I guess you have a point there”. She said with a smirk.

“So can we please hang-out sometime”?

She looked away from me for a few moments and I slowly saw a smile going across her face.

“Ok how about me meet at the dock around… nine tonight”? She said with a cute smile.

“Sounds cool”. I said trying to be nonchalant even though I was totally excited.

“Sweet. You better get out of here”.  She whispered as she scanned around for her brother again.

“You got it. Seeya tonight”. I told her as I ran off into the forest.

 “Don’t forget now”. She yelled.

“I won’t”. I yelled back.  Luckily I did remember the way back to the cabin from Shadows cabin.

The rest of the day seemed to go by so slow. The clock seemed to taunt me with each tick and tock. I felt like a kid again waiting for Christmas morning. As nine o’clock got closer the more anxious I got. Around eight thirty my family said their goodnights to each other, that is except me of course. They all went to their rooms and I just stood there like I didn’t exist. I was upset but I didn’t let it damper my excitement about hanging out with Shadow. As I got dressed for the evening, I thought that maybe I should wear my trunks underneath my jeans after all I was going to be hanging out with someone who was part fish. I threw on a red shirt and snuck my way downstairs. I walked out to the end of the dock and sat on the edge. I sat Indian style and waited impatiently for Shadow to come. I looked up at the summer sky and was mesmerized by the stars and moon. I leaned back onto the dock. The stars seemed to be a million white Christmas light strung all over the black sky. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath and smelt that lovely pine tree aroma. The beauty of nature again put me to sleep.
