Like always I snuck past my sleeping family and made my way out the back door. As I marched my way to our secret hangout place I gazed up at the sky and saw the marvelous full moon. The forest was alive with the fireflies that made it look like there were millions of lights strung from tree to tree. When I got to the clearing at our hangout spot I saw Shadow sitting on the ground staring up at the night sky. I crept up behind her being as silent as a mouse. I got close enough and covered up her eyes with my hands.

“Guess who”? I whispered in her ear.

“Is it the monster from the black lagoon”? She answered with a chuckle. I took my hands off her eyes and she turned her head around and looked at me with a smile.

“Hi Justin”.

“Hello”. I replied as I sat down beside her.

“Isn’t it beautiful tonight”? She asked as she gazed at the sky. I looked up and was mesmerized by the sky.

“Yeah it is”. I answered.

I leaned back onto the cool, moist ground and put my hands under my head to act as cushions. Shadow looked down at me and she giggled, and then laid down next to me. The sky was beautiful it seemed like it was filled with billons of fireflies. We were staring at it for a few minutes when Shadow got up and laid on her side and looked at me. She used her hand to support her body.

“Justin can I…ask you something”?

“Sure”.

“Do you like me…not just as a friend”?

Her words made my heart start banging so hard I thought it would explode out of my chest.

“Um…w-why d-do you ask”? I said nervously even though I didn’t know how to answer her really.

Shadow moved over closer to me and put her hands on my shoulders and looked down at me.

“Don’t do that crap. Just tell me the truth”.

I tried to think straight but my thoughts were racing and I felt like I couldn’t breathe, Even though every part of my body wanted me to scream out yes. My hands shook and my toes turned into ice cubes. Finally I got control of my thoughts and let the word slip out.

“Yes”.

I said and I was relieved that I finally said what I had been wanting to say for weeks. She smiled at me and I smiled back. She flipped on top of me, so that she was straddling me. My body froze and I was in denial that this was actually happening. She slowly moved down my body and our faces got closer and closer. Soon our noses were only centimeters away. Our breathing was fast and our bodies were shaking.

Our noses touched and Shadow stopped. My mind was in a tornado of emotions. Our hot breath brushing each other’s face. I didn’t know if she wasn’t sure about what she doing or if she was too scared to take the last step but I wanted to kiss her so much that I put my hand on the back of her head and pushed her forward and…we kissed. I inhaled sharply the moment our lips touched. I couldn’t believe that we were actually kissing. Her lips felt like silk. She pulled away and we stared at each other. Without saying a word she came back down and we kissed again and again. We were making out now and I was in more shock than before. After a couple minutes I wrapped my arms around her back and flipped her over and I laid on top of her. She put her hand on the back of my head and ran her fingers though my hair. I pulled away from her sweet lips and stared at her. Her eyes glowed brighter than the moon.

 “What”? She asked me.

“You look beautiful…you know that”. I told her. She giggled and I saw her blush.

“Sorry if I’m not a good kisser. I’ve never…well you know”. She told me and I chuckled a little.

“You’re actually a really good kisser”.

For someone who’s never kissed anyone in their life Shadow seemed like a total pro. Shadow smiled at me and we started making out again. When I kissed her again I put my tongue in her mouth and I felt her body tremble. She laid there in my arms stunned for a few seconds before she did the same to me. Her tongue made me shiver but it was the happiest moment in my life. Here I was kissing the most amazing girl in the world.

We kissed most of the night stopping once in a while to say something cute to one another. Before long dawn was approaching, and I had the nagging feeling in the back of my head that I had to go home soon. I kept kissing Shadow despite the fact that I had to go back. I didn’t want to leave this amazing moment. But Shadow pulled away from my lips and I was upset that she stopped.

“You need to go home soon don’t you”? She asked.

“Kind of but…I can stay here with you for a couple more hours”. I lied to her and I went to kiss her but she turned her head and I kissed her cheek instead.

“I wish you could stay but we both know that you can’t”. She whispered. I knew she was right and I hated it. I got off of her and helped her off the ground.

“Will you walk with me back to the cabin”?

“Sure”. Then we headed off into the forest.
