I woke up to someone’s cold hand gently slapping my face and shaking me around.
“Wake-up Justin…please wake up. Open your eyes sleeping beauty”. I heard my sister voice say. I opened my eyes and saw a blurry figure above me. After a couple of seconds my vision cleared and I saw Sarah standing over me.
“Hey you’re awake…I was starting to get worried”. Sarah said. Then I felt a sharp throbbing pain in my head.
“What happened”? I asked her. The last thing I remembered was saying Shadow was my girlfriend and that was it.
“You passed out that’s what happened”. Sarah snickered.
“How you feeling”? Sarah asked me holding her hand out to help me up.
“I’ve got a headache”. I answered as I grabbed her hand and pulled myself up with Sarah’s help. I started brushing off the dirt from my clothes and I noticed someone was missing.
“Where’s Shadow”? I asked as I scanned around the clearing and saw no sign of Shadow.
“She told me she had to go home and that she would seeya tonight. She really hated to leave because you were passed out”. Sarah replied and I felt like the biggest idiot in the world.
“Great…can’t believe I said that and I’ve probably ruined everything now”.
“She said she would see you tonight so I don’t think you’ve ruined everything yet”. Sarah reassured me with a pat on the shoulder.
“Listen it’s getting late and I’m ready to go home”. Sarah wined.
“I have to talk to Shadow first so you can wait” I barked at her and started to walk away. I felt her grab my wrist and pull my back.
“Justin please I’m tired and it might be better to talk to Shadow tonight”.
I turned my head and saw her doing puppy eyes. I was a sucker for any girl who did that to me even my annoying sister.
“Alright…let’s go and you better hope Shadow comes back here tonight or I’ll put spiders in your bed again like I did after you drew all over my face with permanent marker when we were ten”.
I told her as we made our way into the forest. If Sarah was wrong and now was the best time to talk to Shadow and I was walking away from it, she would have a lot more problems than just spiders in her bed.
“Are you sure we won’t get lost”? Sarah asked not less than a minute later after we started walking.
“I’ve been doing this for weeks now so I know the way pretty good”.
“Have you been doing it because of her”?
“Yeah, we’ve only been dating a week now but we already know each other like the back of our hands”. I told Sarah because I knew she was always curious when it came to who I was dating.
“She is…well not to be rude, but different”. Sarah commented but to me Shadow was just a normal teen.
“No she’s not, you just don’t know her like l do. She actually really smart, cool and amazing. In fact I don’t see anything wrong with her”. I told Sarah and I heard her stop walking. I stopped too, to see what was wrong.
“You don’t see her scales…are you feeling alright Justin”? Sarah asked me. Sarah was the kind of person who saw everything from the outside first before actually looking at what’s inside and that’s one reason she drove me crazy all the time. I never called her out on it before because she’s too stubborn to listen but now Shadow was involved and I wasn’t going to let her call my girlfriend a freak.
