Three days have gone by and Shadow hasn’t showed up at our hang-out spot. I lied in my bed staring at the ceiling. I’m miserable beyond words and I can’t stop hating myself. I scared away the best thing I ever had. I wanted out of this horrible place and never wanted to come back again. I just wanted to see Shadow again so I could explain myself to her.
“Hey you wanna play with me Justin”? I heard Daren ask me. I turned my head and saw Daren standing in my doorway holding his action figures.
“No now get away from me you little brat”. I told him and he just stood there.
“But you promised me” He said and he’s childish needs were the least of my concerns.
“Get the hell away from me or I’ll throw those stupid toys into a fire”. I threatened him and he ran down the hall crying. I didn’t care about him or anyone else at the moment the only person on my mind was Shadow.
It’s been a week and still no sign of Shadow. I was worried and upset not knowing what was going on. Had I scared her away, was she sick or had they been captured? I laid in my bed with Shadows face bouncing around in my head and it was driving me insane. I could hear the sound of feet approaching and slowly my door opened and Sarah walked inside.
“What do you want”? I asked her and she was hiding something behind her back.
“Listen I know your upset right now but I’ve got good news and bad news”. She said and the last thing I wanted was any news at all.
“What’s the good news”? I grumbled.
“We just got invited to a party”. Sarah gleefully said.
“By who”?
“Mom and dad meet this couple at the grocery store and they’ve been talking a lot and they invited us to a party at their…”. Sarah stopped and took a deep breath as if she was about to explode with excitement.
“At their mansion”! Sarah shrieked jumping up and down. Her shrieked pierced my ears.
“And to show you that I’m getting better I didn’t judge how beautiful this place is before mom showed my pictures of it on her phone…the inside and out”. Sarah told me and I couldn’t help but chuckle at her stupidity.
“Oh wow you didn’t judge a mansion…what a huge improvement”.
“Hey it’s a start isn’t it”?
“You still have a lot to learn”. I told her, and she just rolled her eyes.
A party would have been nice to me before now but maybe it would help me forget about Shadow for a few seconds.
“Alright then what’s the bad news”?.
