The rest of the term went by surprisingly smoothly for Silvia and Remus. The discord that arose from Hermes's attack in September had long subsided. Professor Gainer continued to favor Regulus and dislike Thaddeus Kenra. The fall quidditch season ended in an unlikely Hufflepuff victory. Andrea and Anastasia Clydesdale became school rockstars after winning the game together. Spring quidditch would start up before anyone would know it.
Sirius Black refused to go home for Christmas, despite Regulus's threats. Everyone knew he'd get a howler for not getting off the train at Kings Cross.
"This cabin is full, sorry, Little Lupin." James still didn't know Silvia's name.
"But, you only have three people in there."
"Well, Romulus's cage takes up a lot of space," he said quickly before pulling the door shut.
"Silvia, I found a cabin," Sienna declared. Lydia Applegrass and Dixie O'Hara stood behind her. Silvia hurried down the hall to what seemed to be the last open cabin on the entire train. It was in the Ravenclaw section, but the girls didn't mind as they piled in. As soon as they had settled, the door swung open.
"Oi, no Gryffindors allowed." It was Blaire, followed by Calypso Bombardier.
Silvia rolled her eyes. "Finders keepers, Blaire. I'm sure you and Calypso can sit somewhere else. Maybe Harper and Piper have an extra pair of seats."
"That's okay," Blaire declared. "We're all friends with Dixie. We can all sit here."
Dixie O'Hara cowered in her seat. Silvia didn't know her very well. The two had only a small handful of conversations that semester, however, she knew Dixie was not very fond of Blaire, for understandable reasons.
Blaire shoved through, squeezing herself between Dixie and Sienna. "Silvia, I can't wait to see you again this Christmas. Boy, every year gets crazier. I wonder what your weird brother's going to do this year."
Silvia sniffed. Sienna caught on immediately. "Remus isn't weird, he's just quiet," Sienna explained.
"He's kinda cute," Lydia admitted. The cabin laughed. Silvia made vomiting noises.
When the laughter subsided, Sienna spoke. "You know who's really cute?"
"Who?" Blaire asked.
"Sirius Black."
Silvia made vomiting noises again. This time, no one laughed.
"What? You don't think he's cute?" Calypso asked.
"Well, no, he's my brother's friend, not to mention my friend's brother." She said, thinking of Regulus.
"Who do you like, then?" Lydia asked.
Silvia couldn't think of anyone. She blurted out the first name who came to mind. "George Harrison."
A couple of the girls chuckled. "What? Who's that?" Calypso asked.
"He's a muggle," Sienna explained. "He's in this really groovy cute boy band."
They laughed together, and before they knew it, the train had arrived at its destination. Holiday break had officially begun.
The break started like this:
It was eight AM on the first day of break when a knocking was heard from downstairs. Hope Lupin rose from her bed just as a voice yelled "Alohomora," and the front door flew wide open.
"Lupins!" A voiced called excitedly. "Sorry for breaking and entering, but it's time for vacation!"
Lyall hurried downstairs to see Lonnie and Arabella Clydesdale standing in their parlor, accompanied by five of their six children.
"Vacation?" Lyall asked in utter confusion.
"Of course," Lonnie explained. "Remember, last year at work you agreed to take our families on a ski trip during the break. Well, we're ready!"
Silvia and Remus stood at the top of the stairs listening to the conversation. "We're going on vacation." Silvia whispered excitedly.
Remus smiled. "This is going to be the best Christmas ever!"
Hope and Lyall exchanged looks. "Lyall, no."
"It's either this or my sister's again.
Silvia rolled her eyes. "I've seen Blaire too much this year," she whispered to Remus.
"She has a thing for James," Remus quietly commented.
"Fine," Hope said. "Anything to get away from Gustav."
"Wonderful," Lonnie Clydesdale exclaimed. "Get packed up and be outside by nine!"
At ten minutes before nine, Silvia walked in on her mother packing.
"Mummy," she said sadly, "we're not leaving Visty here, are we?"
Visty looked at Hope. "No, Miss Silvia, Mistress Lupin, I mustn't."
"Well," Hope looked to Visty to Silvia, "I suppose you can come with us. We may need the help of a house self like you." She smiled.
Visty stared at Hope in shock. "Visty? Vacation with you? Mistress, I am honored." She bowed. "The Lupins are truly honorable masters." She wiped a tear of joy.
"Come along, Visty and Silvia," she guided them out of the room. "Remus? Is your bag packed?"
"Sure is, mum!" He yelled as he bolted down the stairs.
"Remus, wait," she called. He spun around and jogged back up, his smile slowly dissolved from his face. "Silvia, Visty, help daddy pack." They hurried away, leaving Remus alone with his mum.
"Has the cycle restarted?"
Remus nodded. "Last night was the final night," he explained.
"Good. I didn't want to risk it... Remus, last night I realized you're getting stronger. You've gotten so tall since September. I know what happened to that Hornsby kid wasn't your fault, but you need to be careful. I don't want you hurting anyone for real."
"I know, mum," Remus sighed. "I've been making my trips to the shrieking shack. Dumbledore told everyone that Hermes only said my name because I was the last person he saw before leaving the common room that night. It was all coincidental."
"I hope so," Hope put her arms around her only son. "You know I love you, Remus."
"I love you too, mum."
