"Someone is telling the Death Eaters all of our secrets!" Sirius cried. "James, Lily, I would never, you know that."
"We assigned you as our spy, Sirius. You were supposed to feed them lies."
"I have been feeding them lies. Someone else in our ranks is giving them information."
A few members of the Order of the Phoenix were holding a meeting at Grimmauld Place. Silvia sat with Sienna and Dixie, who sweated in pure sweat and fear as they listened to Sirius argue with the Potters.
"If it's not you, then who?" asked Lily.
"You both know who I think it is," Sirius explains. "Remus spends weeks on end away from Grimmauld Place. He's conspiring with the Death Eaters."
Silvia stood up quickly, allowing her chair to fall to the floor with a thud. "That's a lie, and you know it! You have no proof!"
"Remus has ties with Greyback, a known supporter of You-Know-Who," Sirius explained. "Accept the truth, Silvia. I know it, Peter knows it, James and Lily, deep down, know it. Everybody here knows that Remus is working with Death Eaters. He's given away or location or multiple occasions. We can't risk including him in the Order any longer!"
"He's not giving up on the Order!"
"He is banned!"
"Sirius!" James cried. "You can't just ban people because you suspect them of treason! New plan: Peter is our Secret-Keeper, Sirius is the decoy, and Remus stays out of it. Not a word about this will be mentioned outside of this meeting. Is that clear?"
Silvia sniffed angrily before storming out of the room.
Callisto waddled over to Sirius. She would turn two in less than a month. "Up?" she asked him.
He turned away from her quickly. "Not now, Callisto. Go play with Blythe and Harry."
Harry had recently turned one, and he was just learning how to walk. Sirius watched as Blythe playfully knocked him over. He sighed. The stress of the world had taken him away from his own Godson. It hurt to think about.
"This meeting is adjourned," James declared, suddenly standing from the table. "We're going home now."
"Come on, Harry," Lily said nervously as they prepared to leave.
Dixie uncomfortably disapparated. A few other members followed her.July 1981: Two months prior.
Severus stood awkwardly in the doorway, deep in thought.
The day's Order meeting had been stressful. Once more, he sat and watched as James held Lily's hand, he put his arm around her, the two held their son in each other's lap. Lily had formally introduced him to Harry James Potter just once. He looked down at the child and nodded before simply stating, "he has beautiful eyes."
Now, everyone had gone. Severus was overstaying his welcome as he dissociated in the dining room doorway. Upstairs, Callisto screamed. Moments later, Silvia appeared worn out and disgruntled.
"She's just like her mother," Severus commented. "You can take the child out of wickedness, but you can't take wickedness out of a child."
"Nature vs. nurture," Silvia grunted. "Nurture always wins."
"That's what you think? We'll see in ten years which house she's in. I promise to take good care of her in Slytherin."
"She's Gryffindor, that's for sure."
Severus nodded before disapparating.
"I thought he's never leave."Sirius was pacing in his bedroom. He jumped at the sight of Remus standing in the doorway, holding a large piece of parchment paper.
"I didn't mean to frighten you."
"No, Remus, you didn't frighten me at all, in fact, my heart is racing."
Remus took a cautious step forward. "I'm sure Marlene had a perfectly good meaning for not showing up at today's meeting."
"No," Sirius declared. "No, she would have told me. Something must have happened."
"Her family is in hiding, Sirius," Remus reminded him. "Maybe she just wanted to stay with them."
"But she would have told me," Sirius restated, this time louder.
"Alastor Moody said that he would check the home. They're probably fine."
"And what if they're not?"
Remus watched the silence fill the room as the sudden thought of death became dreadful. He slowly held out the parchment, complete with each an every poem that he had written for Sirius over the past year. Each one held more meaning than the last. A part of him held back, considering Sirius's current state of despair. Maybe, just maybe, he'll read some of the cornier ones and the two could have a laugh. He suddenly realized how much time at passed since either of them really had a genuine laugh. Nothing seemed to humor either of them anymore.
"I have something for you," Remus said finally.
