Letters From Remus

Dear Silvia,
I last saw you about an hour ago, at platform nine and 3/4, waving goodbye. Gee, am I excited about this! I'm sitting on the Hogwarts Express in a cabin with Anastasia Clydesdale, her sister, Andrea, who's a fifth year, and her friend, Ina Abbott. They're both Hufflepuffs.
     I'm very excited to know which house I belong to. I hope I'm sorted into Gryffindor, just like dad. Hufflepuff sounds like fun too. Andrea and Ina love being Hufflepuffs at Hogwarts. They told us everything about school. Ina said that she's had a different Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher every year since she was a first year. She said that this year's teacher is named Professor Ruby Langdon. Rumor has it that she graduated from Hogwarts only three years ago! Andrea said she remembered when Professor Langdon was head girl for the house of Slytherin.
Word around the train is that we're arriving in five minutes! I'll write again once I've been sorted. Make sure to give Romulus a treat when he arrives with this letter. He's being quite a feisty owl!

Dear Silvia,
Anastasia and I were just sorted. She was instantly sorted into Hufflepuff, as we all predicted. I'm a Gryffindor! Let mum and dad know. They'll be so proud, I'm sure.
Do you remember Sirius Black? That boy at Christmas dinner at Aunt Lita's? He's in Gryffindor too. The sorting hat sat on his head thinking for what felt like an eternity. For some reason, everyone was shocked when he was sorted into Gryffindor. Andrea later told me that the entire Black family since the beginning of time has been sorted into Slytherin. His cousin, Narcissa, who's a seventh year, didn't even congratulate him. Can you believe that?
Sirius is really funny, though. He said he doesn't care what his family thinks about him or his house. He told me they can all "get bent", whatever that means. Then he made up an arrangement of jokes for other first years and I during dinner. After dinner, he asked me how you were. I didn't realize you knew each other so well, or that he remembered you from so long ago.
Headmaster Dumbledore introduced me to the whomping willow. It's beautiful, nonetheless dangerous.
Thank you for feeding Romulus! He returned happier than ever. I hope to get a letter from you tomorrow. Good night!

Dear Silvia,
Professor Langdon already gave us an assignment! Sirius complained for nearly ten minutes after class. I told him I'd do he assignment for him. That made him shut up right quick.
I've made another friend. His name is Peter Pettigrew and he's my potions partner. Sirius is working with another boy in Gryffindor, but I don't know his name. Peter is very nice, however. He's small and timid. In a way, he reminds me of myself. Is it odd to describe a person as being rat-like?
I just read your letter. You're much more of a Gryffindor than I am. You'll definitely be sorted into my house. You'd love it here. I sure do!
I have Astronomy tonight at midnight. I'm on my way to Potions right now. Ina and Andrea said a lot of good things about Professor Slughorn. I truly can't wait.
Tell mum I said thanks for the chocolate frog. I got an Armando Dippet card!

Silvia,
I just had Astronomy. It wasn't as bad as I believed it would be. Professor Harmer is a very knowledgable teacher. I also met Sirius's friend. His name is James Potter.
I've been very nervous recently. I turn in three days. Headmaster Dumbledore has everything I need already, but I can't help worrying that something will go wrong.
My Defense Against the Dark Arts homework has already been completed. I promised Sirius that I would do his tomorrow morning.
Silvia, I think I should take a break from writing for a few days. Romulus is very tired, as am I. I promise I'll read every letter you send me! Talk to you soon.

Silvia,
I know that it's been two weeks since I've last written, and I'm sorry. I'll try my hardest to tell you everything that's been happening recently on this one piece of parchment.
For starters, the transformation went well, as Headmaster Dumbledore made sure of. I've been hanging around a lot in the common room, usually doing Sirius's homework. It's okay because my friends are around me. Sirius and James really like me, and they like Peter too! Quite frankly, I was afraid that James and Sirius wouldn't like us because we're not like them. Can you believe that James has has three girlfriends since he first day of school? He even hugged one of them!
     James really likes this one girl named Lily, but she wants nothing to do with him. I think she has a boyfriend already. He's this really greasy kid in Slytherin. I don't know his name.
     Professor Langdon really likes me. She told me I'm the best student in her class of first years. I really understand dark arts and dark magic. Maybe it's because that's all I've known growing up.
     Quidditch season is coming up soon. I'm very excited. Sirius told me all about one time when you were seven, you two played quidditch with Blaire, Regulus, and his cousins. I'm excited to meet Regulus. Sirius doesn't really like him, but I hope he gets sorted into Gryffindor, too.
     Andrea Clydesdale is a beater for Hufflepuff. Anastasia and I watched them practice one day. She's really good. Turns out they have a seventh year brother named Armin. He's the other beater. The two of them play so well together. Turns out, there hasn't been a Hufflepuff beater who's last name wasn't Clydesdale in eight years! Anastasia said she wants to tryout for beater next year, once Armin is done.
Speaking of the Clydesdales, mum told me that you have made friends with Arlin and Alexi. I feel sorry for Alexi, being a squib and all. I'm happy that you'll have friends next year when you're a first year.
