I hope you got your things together
I hope you are quit prepared to die
Look's like we're in for nasty weather
One eye is taken for an eye.
"I can't live like this!"
One week had passed. Remus, once more cried and rocked on a lavatory floor. His mother was gone, his heart was shattered. Worst of all: it felt as though no one understood. One more hurtful blow could kill his spirit altogether.
He heard footsteps and steadied his breathing as he watched his sister walk in. Her face was red and her eyes were puffy.
"Remus," she hissed. "What did you do?"
"I'm sorry. I didn't know that would happen," he responded, holding his temples.
Silvia let out a shrill scream, summoning Moaning Myrtle.
"Oh my," Myrtle giggled. "Looks like I'm not the only crybaby at Hogwarts."
"Remus, tell me how this happened."
"Yes," Myrtle agreed. "I would also love to know."
A lot can change within a week.
"You've been awful quiet, Moony." Remus heard a voice in the back of his mind. It had been three days since the incident with Sirius. "Moony?" the voice asked.
He looked up to see James staring at him from across the breakfast table.
"I'm feeling a little under the weather." He caught a glimpse of Sirius, who immediately turned away. Remus turned away too, shamefully.
"You and Padfoot have been acting rather distant, you know."
Remus cleared his throat. "I don't know what you're talking about."
He suddenly noticed Sienna, who was sitting next to him. "Maybe they got into a fight after... you know."
His face reddened. "What? What are you talking about, Sienna. Nothing happened."
Sienna looked at him carefully and laced his fingers between her own. "Sirius and Silvia," she whispered. "Did you fight over that? He broke her heart."
"What are you talking about?" he asked again and furrowed his eyebrows. "She told me it was mutual."
"I suppose," Sienna whispered back. "She was really distant towards him after what happened over the summer." She paused, fearing she had upset him. "Silvia told him that she wanted time. He broke it off with her and said he had feelings for someone else."
Remus's heart thudded guiltily. Sirius left Silvia for him. He was suddenly disgusted and hurting for his sister.
"She's secretly taking it as a loss," Sienna continued. "Apparently, she knows who he left her for, but she won't tell me."
He had the sudden desire to tell her all the events happening in the previous week between him and Sirius. The guilt was killing him, consuming him from the inside out." He stood up quickly, shaking the table. "I have to go," he sputtered as he hurried out of the great hall.
"Tell me more," Myrtle demanded.
"So now you know," Silvia said as she wiped her puffy eyes.
"Why didn't you tell me?" He asked.
She sniffed. "You and Sirius were best friends. I couldn't ruin your friendship like that."
"Sirius ruined our friendship, not you."
"You did something today, Remus. You better tell me right now."
Myrtle grinned. "Yes, you better."
A week had passed since the end of the year party. It was morning. Remus decided that it was time to sit Sienna down.
"There's something I have to tell you."
Sienna frowned. "Everything alright, Remy?"
He held his head in his hands and shook his head. "No, actually," he sniffed. "Absolutely nothing is alright."
"What's wrong." She reached for his hand. He immediately pulled it away.
"I'm sad. I'm stressed. I'm dazed and confused. I'm angry, so angry. Most importantly, I'm scared. I'm scared for the future. I'm scared of who I am, what I am. I'm not who you think I am, Sienna. Honestly, I'm not even who I thought I was."
"What are you saying?"
"I'm saying... I discussed these problems with my sister and we agreed that it would be best that we wouldn't do this anymore. It hurts my heart, it hurts my brain. I'm unhealthy for you. Something really got the ball rolling, Sienna, and I can't stop it. I don't want it to hurt you. I'm guilty, and the guilt is eating me up. I can't do this anymore. You deserve someone better than me. I'm sorry." It hurt so badly to say. He loved Sienna dearly, but imagining her hatred towards him if she ever found out what happened between him and Sirius terrified him to the point where he couldn't sleep. He decided that after all this time, he needed to give his heart and his brain a rest. "I'm giving up. It's been a rough year without my mother. You've always been there for me, but I can't emotionally be there for you anymore. I'm giving up." He began to sob.
Sienna stood up sternly and walked away.
"She didn't even say anything?" Silvia cried.
"The plot thickens," said Myrtle.
Remus shook his head. "She said nothing. Absolutely nothing."
"I guess it's time I tell you why I'm crying," Silvia said, laughing nervously and shrugging.
James, Sirius, and Peter had barely spoken to Silvia since she and Sirius had cut ties. It was all too awkward for them. Silvia did, however, enjoy the newfound company of Lily, Marlene, and Dorcas. She was talking to them during breakfast. Lydia was studying from her Ancient Runes textbook.
Sienna burst into the Great Hall, red faced and puffy eyed.
Silvia stood up quickly, reaching out for her best friend. "Sienna, what's wrong? What happened."
"You," Sienna spat. "You couldn't handle the simple thought of Remus and I being together. It was you who planted those ideas in his head. He told me that he and his sister had a talk. You did this. He broke me and it's your fault."
"Wh-wha-" Silvia sputtered. "Sienna, I didn't do anything to him."
She whipped out her wand and pointed it between Silvia's eyes. "Not one word!" she screamed. Heads turned to watch. "You couldn't stand the fact that Remus was happy with someone else! I know you have issues. You always had! From the beginning I could tell you had some sick obsession with your brother. Well, you know what? He's yours now. He's all yours. So you can go off and get married and have some weird three-headed incest babies with him!"
Silvia began to cry. "I have to protect him."
"From what?" Sienna yelled. The room silenced.
Sirius stood up. "Sienna, please. This isn't Silvia's fault."
Silvia turned to face him, teary-eyed and defeated. "No, Sirius. This is between Sienna and I now. Don't blame yourself." She turned back to Sienna. "I'm sorry this happened."
Sienna's face contorted in rage. The Great Hall waited in silence for her response. "We're not friends, Silvia Lupin. Don't ever, for even a second, think we are," she growled before pushing her way out of the room.
"Silvia!" called a girl's voice. She turned to see Blaire and Regulus making their way toward her.
"What's going on?" Regulus asked. "Are you okay?"
She moved away, holding back hot tears. "Just leave me alone!" she cried before storming out of the Great Hall.
"That's why I'm here," she told Remus bleakly.
"I'm sorry," he said. "I ruined everything."
Silvia moved towards her brother. "Trust me, I've witnessed how this week has affected you."
"I've ruined your friendship with Sienna."
"It's okay," Silvia tried to smile. "I have Lydia and Blaire and Thaddeus and Arlin... and you."
He smiled. "You'll always have me, even when you've grown sick and tired of seeing my dumb scarred face.
"I'll never get sick of you," she promised as she traced a scar. "Your face is dumb, but that's only because it looks so much like mine."
"You have a dumb face, Silvia," he laughed.
"Your's is dumber," she said and smiled back. She put her head on his shoulder. "Well aren't we just the loneliest hearts in Sergeant Pepper's club."
"I suppose so," he responded. "Happy last day of school, Silvia."
"Oh, yes," she replied sarcastically. "A very happy last day indeed."
