Sienna emerged from her dorm wearing a v-neck arabesque beige and green bell-bottom jumpsuit. A fur coat was slung over her shoulder. Her family always kept up with the latest fashion.
Silvia looked at her up and down. "I didn't realize that this would be formal," she said, motioning to her yellow t-shirt and overalls.
"What do you mean?" Sienna asked as she slid the coat on. "This is a nice touch, by the way," she added, lightly touching the ascot Silvia was using as a headband.
"Thanks, I guess."
Sienna grabbed Silvia carefully by the shoulders. "Listen, I know you don't like the idea of me being with Remus, but he's been very good to me, just like you have. I think this would be good for all of us."
"And you won't feel uncomfortable with Sirius around?" Silvia asked cautiously.
"What? No way," Sienna laughed. "Sirius and I are chums now. We're like Daphne and Fred." She wrapped an arm around Silvia's waist. "Now, let's go, girlfriend. Let's see what those boys planned for us."
Silvia smiled as they marched out of the common room.
Sirius and Remus were doing some kind of handshake by the stairs.
"Oi, there you are. We thought you'd never show!" said Sirius as he awkwardly handed Silvia a wilted rose. "You girls and all your makeup and hair and clothes and-"
"We get it, Sirius, now where are we going?" Sienna interrupted.
"Why, the Three Broomsticks of course!" he replied energetically. Silvia put her winter coat on as the four of them began to make their way down the stairs.
Remus sighed. "It's the only pub that serves non-alcoholic drinks."
"Maybe an alcoholic drink would do you good. No more pep-talks or nervous sweating before a date." Sirius said, ruffling his friend's hair. "Also, you wouldn't need those note cards you have stuffed in your coat pocket if you had a little whisky in ya."
"They're called 'conversation cards', Sirius, and you're blowing my cover. She doesn't know about that," Remus muttered in response.
Sirius laughed and turned to Silvia. "He's an oddball, Remy is."
"Actually," Silvia said awkwardly as she held up her own set of conversation cards.
"Bloody hell!" Sirius cried. "Damn Lupins."
The Three Broomsticks was packed. The students had been craving butterbeer all semester, and now that they were finally back, all they wanted to do was drink it up.
The four sat at what seemed to be the only empty table in the very center of the room. Sirius groaned angrily as he sat down.
"Could you believe that?" he asked, motioning to a nearby table. "Snivellus took up the entire horseshoe booth over there. How greedy is he?"
Silvia sighed. "Leave him alone. He's gone through enough after what you and James put him through a few weeks ago."
"Now, what are you on about?" he asked. "We haven't bothered him since. We like to mess with Regulus now."
"Are you daft, Sirius? Haven't you heard about what happened between him and Lily? You were right there!"
"Oh, you mean when he called her a mud-"
"Shhh."
"You can say mudblood in front of me," Sienna said as she sipped her butterbeer. "I don't mind. I hear it all the time from the Stockhausen twins."
"If I see Harper and Piper, I'll make sure we hex them," Remus promised.
"Well he called her that and she freaked out and hasn't spoken to him since," Silvia finished.
"That's gotta be rough," Sirius commented. "Rougher than anything we've ever done to him."
"James dangled him upside down with no trousers on," Sienna reminded him.
"It doesn't excuse the fact that he's sitting all alone at a table meant for ten people."
Silvia nodded and turned to the table. Severus sat alone writing notes in his potions book. "That damn book," she scorned. "No one likes potions that much."
"I think we should sit with him," Remus said after a moment of heavy silence.
"Agreed," Sienna said, reaching for Remus's hand. The two stood up. "We'll leave you two alone I suppose."
"Wait," Silvia shot up out of her chair. "I'll join you. Let's give him a chance. I'm sure he's very nice."
"He's a greasy snake," Sirius commented. "However, I don't want to be that jabroni that sits alone like he is."
"What's a jabroni?" Remus asked as he watched Sirius stand up.
"No clue," Sirius shrugged in response. "Muggle term."
The four sauntered over to the horseshoe shaped corner table. "Good afternoon, Snavely," Sirius said in an attempt to appear polite."
Silvia pulled Sirius back. "Try that again."
He rolled his eyes. "Fine. Hello, Severus. It's very nice to see you on this fine afternoon. Are these seats taken?" He motioned to the booth seats.
Severus looked up from his potions book and wiped a lock of greasy, dark hair out of his eyes. "If you and Remus are here to hex me in an attempt to impress you're girlfriends, then I should assure you that you are tempting with your fates."
"No, no, absolutely not, Sienna quickly replied. "You looked lonely and thought that you might like a friend."
He set his potions book down, frowning. "I suppose these seats are in fact, not taken." He held his wand in front of himself as a warning when they sat down.
"So, what is it that you are always writing in that potions book of yours?" Silvia asked, reaching for it.
He slapped her hand away with his wand. "None of your business, Lupin."
"I suppose you're right," she said, rubbing her stinging hand.
"It's very nice to actually talk to you," Sienna said. "I'm sure that we have a lot in common."
"Actually, Rispoli, I believe we have absolutely nothing in common, you see, I refuse to associate myself with scum whereas I've noticed you enjoy them most as they put their tongues in your mouth and grope you."
Her face went bright red. Silvia gave Remus a warning look.
"However, I do appreciate the gesture that you all have made by sitting with me. I know that one of you is using me for personal gain. Is it Sirius, who is planning on making me gain his trust just so he can lure me in yet another one of his marauding gang's ruthless traps? Or possibly Remus, who wishes to knock me down a peg and one-up me in all of our classes? Maybe Silvia, who feels the need to pry for information and touch my belongings. Finally, could it be Sienna, who needs yet another friend in order to attempt to satiate her endless desire for friends and popularity? Which is it, everyone? Who can it be?"
The four stared unblinkingly at him. The shock was palpable.
"Why did you just say your inner monologue out loud?" asked Sienna after a prolonged silence.
"Can we buy you a butterbeer?" Remus offered.
Severus thought momentarily. "No one here is trying to use me?"
Silvia shook her head in confusion. "No, I don't think that was any of our intentions."
He took turns staring everyone down before making his decision. "Fine," he said finally. "However, I will join whoever is ordering as to assure that no one is attempting to poison me."
"I'll go!" Sirius quickly volunteered. "C'mon, Severus, best bloke, good chum, let's go!"
"I suppose you were the most likely candidate to poison me, Black. I will join you."
The two boys slid out of the booth and walked over to the bar.
"What'll it be boys?" a goblin bartender asked as she wiped a glass with an old dishrag.
"Hello. My abnormally large and hooked nose friend of mine and I would like five butterbeers on me," Sirius responded in a charismatic tone.
"Sure thing, boys." She snapped her fingers and five butterbeers appeared on the table. Sirius passed her a handful of galleons.
"Wait a moment, Snavely. There's something I want to talk to you about," he said as they were about to move to the table.
Severus scoffed. "I knew it would be you who would use me. What is it that you so desperately need?"
"It's about my friend, Remus."
"I know of him."
"I have some suspicions about him, you see," Sirius continued. "And I was hoping that you would investigate for me."
Severus raised his eyebrows. "Suspicions? Do tell."
Sirius voice fell to a whisper. "I will pay you not to tell."
Severus nodded. "Deal."
"I've noticed throughout the years that Remus acts very oddly," he quickly looked around. "He vanishes for nights at a time and returns early the next morning worn out, like maybe he's been running all night. What could it be?"
Severus nodded. "I can't say I know. What do you believe it is?"
Sirius shrugged nervously. "I don't know. Drugs?"
"You think Lupin is on drugs?" he responded sarcastically.
"Yeah! Maybe he's doing like enhancement drugs to make his brain go a bazillion miles per hour and that's why he so smart."
"Right...." Severus rolled his eyes.
"I'll pay you more if you follow him around all night and see what he's up to."
"Why can't you do this?"
"Because, man! Obviously you don't need beauty rest, like I do. Plus, if I caught him doing drugs, he'd be so embarrassed to the point that we wouldn't even be friends anymore. You and Remus aren't friends at all. He wouldn't care if you saw him," Sirius quickly explained.
Severus sighed. "I suppose I can spy on him. Let me know what night and what location."
"Just wait outside of our common room every night. He usually leaves before midnight. If you spot him, just follow him. If not, go back to your snake room."
"I don't see why not. Will you and James leave me alone?"
"Of course," Sirius responded.
"It's a deal. Don't let me down again, Black." He looked down at a book heading he had written titled Sectumsempra as Sirius walked back to the table.
