The year ended in Hufflepuff victory for the House Cup.
Whether or not this victory could have been determined by Professor Kenra's favoritism toward her children and former house remains unknown.
It was after the victory was announced that Dumbledore decided to introduce a recent guest to Hogwarts. A spiritual immortal with endless knowledge.
The Maiden of Omnipotence had arrived to inform students on the state of the modern world. She was dark skinned, with white hair and glowing yellow eyes. Rags clung to her body. it was obviously that she had chosen this appearance. Dumbledore stood at her side on stage. Quickly, he whispered a message into her ear. She nodded nonchalantly.
At that action, Silvia turned to her brother, a look of question and concern on her face. He returned to her a reassuring nod. His secret will stay safe for today.
A worker from the Ministry stood nearby, as well as Aunt Lita, with a clipboard and an enchanted quill.
The crowds of students looked to each other, murmuring nervously, fearing the Maiden would expose them for cheating on their Ancient Runes exams, or spreading rumors about their fellow students. The tension felt throughout the Great Hall was deadly.
Suddenly, the Maiden spoke her first worldly update. "A powerful wizard has arrived. His followers have begun to wreak havoc. Muggles around the world are dead at their hands. A savior will come in time. Blood will be spilt in the name of his victory."
Gasps and murmurs echoed through the hall. Lydia burst into tears, remembering that it was her brother who was killed by this dark lord.
The Maiden continued. "I have been requested to convey specific information. I call the questioner forward."
With that said, the Unknown Soldier flitted forward. He stood before her, head down, prepared for her endless knowledge.
"You wish to know who you are?"
The Soldier nodded humbly. "More than anything."
The Maiden tilted her head back, slowly, as she began to think. She lifted her arms from her sides and circled them around her body until the tips of her fingers touched her head. Then, she spoke.
"Your name is Vasilius Atwell. Your mother was named Elizabeth, your father, Nicolaus. Each were born in 1805 in Manchester, England. They had grown up together, attended Hogwarts together. Elizabeth died of typhoid in 1848. Nicolaus died of natural causes in 1877.
"You were born on August 8th, 1832. In 1850, you married Aleksandra Ilyanovich, a Ukrainian witch. One year later, she gave birth to twin boys, Bogdan and Gavrill, one grew to be a prosperous wizard, the other was a squib. Due to resentment towards each other, the two often fought. Once your leg was lost in battle, the Russian Ministry sent you back to your parents's land, considering you worthless to the elite wizards living in the Ukraine. They wiped your memory and sent you to Hogwarts. After your untimely disappearance, written as a death by the Russian Ministry, Aleksandra was grief stricken. She ended her own life just two years later, your sons were only six years old.
"The boys were sent by the Russian Ministry of Magic to separate foster homes. One lived out his life as a wizard, the other, a muggle. Each traveled throughout Russia and the Ukraine over the years with their growing families. They lived for many years, with many surviving generations, neither knowing that the other lived so close as they grew older. Bogdan created a line of wizards and witches, disrupted by one squib. Gavrill created a line of muggles, disrupted only by one muggle born witch. If I am not mistaken, a descendant of both Bogdan and Gavrill sit in this room."
The great hall stirred. People looked all around, making their guesses as to which students can be descendants of the Unknown Soldier.
"Please," the Soldier begged. "Please, my family is in this room. Let me know their names. I'll do anything." He fell to his knees and ran his hands through his feathery hair.
"Bogdan's granddaughter left Moscow when she was very young. She married a man from Wales. Together, the couple produced three sons and three daughters. One son and one daughter stand in this room today. His name is Arlin, hers, Anastasia."
All eyes turned to Arlin and Anastasia Clydesdale in complete shock. Anastasia shook her head to one of her friends, signifying that she wasn't aware of this fact in her ancestry.
The Soldier grinned with pure excitement at his descendants.
"Gavrill," the Maiden said loudly, interrupting the excitement of the room. "His granddaughter left the Ukraine when she was young. She lived with minimal wealth, and married a wealthy Englishman. The two had ten children, the last was a witch. Her name is Lydia."
The entire Gryffindor table gasped simultaneously and turned to Lydia Applegrass, who sat in utter shock as she attempted to retain this new information. She looked to the Hufflepuff table, where Arlin and Anastasia stared back. "I'm related to wizards!" Lydia cried out of sheer joy. "I can't wait to tell my parents. They'll have ten fits!"
A couple of the other students laughed at her comment.
"M-may I see my descendants. Come forward, please." Vasilius Atwell asked. Cautiously, Anastasia stood and stepped forward, pulling Arlin along to the ghost at the front of the room. Lydia followed. Vasilius watched the three of them and smiled as they approached. The room watched as the now known soldier studied the faces of the three students before him.
Dumbledore approached the podium once more, smiling ear to ear. "Ah, yes, it is a beautiful sight, to see a man reconnect with his own blood after all of these years. Now-"
"I am not done," the Maiden interrupted.
He turned to her, mouth agape. "I apologize, madam. Please, continue."
"I have been containing secret information since my arrival that I must expose for the safety of the morals of the Ministry of Magic."
The room silenced. Dumbledore watched as the Maiden paused to think.
"A Hogwarts teacher has become acquainted with the land's clan of centaurs. She has been living in their presence, becoming friendly with them. If I am not mistaken, she has even gone to form an inappropriate relationship with one if the centaurs."
The room was dumbstruck. Silvia's heart broke as the accusations flew out of the Maiden's mouth.
"Who would this be?" asked Dumbledore.
The Maiden did not hesitate before speaking once more. "Her name is Ezinma Kenra!"
A wave of protest shook the Great Hall as many students began to yell in opposition to the Maiden's risky claims.
"Silence!" Dumbledore held his arms out as the students quieted. "Ezinma, step forward. Explain. Are the Maiden's claims true."
Professor Kenra moved shamefully forward. She stood behind the podium, guilt ridden. A couple students cheered her on as she did so.
"The accusations are true." The room filled with gasps and cries. "But, please, listen!" Kenra cried. "It's not how it seems! I would never hurt my husband, my children, by having any inappropriate relations with a centaur!"
"Why did you do this, Ezinma?" Dumbledore asked sadly.
"I understand that we live in a different world than we did when I was a girl!" She explained. "Today, wizards are turning against each other. Magical creatures are turning against us to join the other side. The dark side. They're joining Lord Voldemort."
Students cowered in fear as they heard his name. Lydia began to cry again. Vasilius comforted her awkwardly.
"I can't allow the centaurs to join him. He already has made an alliance with giants and werewolves. As an auror, I can't risk losing the centaurs too. We are at war! We need all the fighters we can get.
"We are not at war, Kenra!" The other Ministry worker called. "You've disobeyed the law by associating yourself with non-human magical creatures. As the Minister's top auror, I would have assumed you would have known this fact."
"I am aware, Lucius," Kenra replied sorrowfully.
Silvia gasped. "That's Lucius Malfoy " she said to Remus. "I can hardly believe my eyes."
"I can hardly believe my ears," Remus added. "Kenra's innocent. This whole law is hog-bogey if I may say so."
"I will alert the Minister immediately. You will be put on trial for this act, Ezinma," Malfoy declared menacingly.
Kenra swallowed hard. "I understand, Lucius." She turned to Dumbledore. "I suppose this means I must resign."
Dumbledore nodded sadly. "It's a shame to see you go, Ezinma. I will argue for your innocence at your trial. I believe that you had done the right thing."
