Gryffindors lounged about in the Common Room. Silvia and Sienna sat on the floor, hunched over an endless number of books.
"Check this out," Sienna said, handing an old copy of the Daily Prophet to Silvia. "Read the headline, 'Fourteen-Year-Old Girl Found Mysterously Dead in Hogwarts Lavatory.'"
Silvia continued reading the article. "'Myrtle Warren, a fourth year Hogwarts student, was found dead on June 13 of this year. Her death, seemingly an anomaly, could have been caused by a recent theory involving the mythological Chamber of Secrets. There is no way to prove that Salazar Slytherin's legendary chamber had been the cause of this student's death. However, it has been discovered that a creature, kept as a pet by Hogwarts student Rubeus Hagrid, could have killed Myrtle Warren. Hagrid, a half-giant, has since been expelled from the school, at Headmaster Dippet's demand.' Wait, Myrtle Warren, killed in a lavatory," Silvia paused to think. "Sienna! That's Moaning Myrtle. thas the girl I met this morning. She has to know where the Chamber of Secrets is."
"Ugh! Why must you keep talking about her?" Sirius asked, sprawled out on a nearby couch.
"Moaning Myrtle seems like a very nice girl, Black. What's your problem with her?" Sienna asked.
"For starters, Rispoli, she's disgusting."
"She had a thing for Sirius last year," James explained. "He's been freaked out by her ever since."
"What are you two even trying to accomplish by finding the Chamber of Secrets? It's not real," Sirius joked.
"Yeah, and you two could get into so much trouble," Lydia added as she walked past. "Gainer took ten points from us when you simply asked about it. Imagine what would happen if they found out you were trying to find it."
"Wait!" James sputtered. "You got ten points taken away from us? Come on, Remus's sister! I need to win a House Cup before I graduate!"
"We're second years, James, we have plenty of chances," Remus said. He sat sadly with his face pressed against an arm of the couch.
Sirius kicked his legs onto Remus's lap. "But, we'll be royally screwed for the next five years if Sienna and Silvia get caught. What is this for anyway?"
"For starters, that's where the Unknown Soldier's leg is hidden."
"Who the bloody hell is that?" James interrupted.
"He's a ghost," Peter explained, rolling his eyes, "and one of Hogwarts's best guards."
"Yes, exactly," Silvia continued. "Obviously, since Hogwarts's guard is down, someone must have opened the Chamber of Secrets. The monster that is in there, the one that killed Moaning Myrtle all those years ago, is what attacked Hermes Hornby."
"You're trying to clear Remus's name?" Peter asked. "There's no way that he did that in the first place. He's no monster. He's as harmless as I am!"
Remus covered his face. The group sat in silence.
"Wait," James said suddenly. "I think I have something that will be perfect for you guys to find the Chamber of Secrets."
Sienna's face lit up. "What is it?"
"I'll be right back," he said, running to his dorm. He appeared with a piece of cloth that appeared to be completely invisible.
"What? No, James. You can't give the invisibility cloak to first years!" Sirius cried.
"Oh, we'll give it back," Sienna snapped. "This is perfect, James. Thank you.""Where to first?" Sienna asked as the two slid out of the Common Room.
"Moaning Myrtle," Silvia explained. "Whatever killed her came from the Chamber of Secrets. She must have some idea where it is."
The two waited as a set of stairs moved toward them. They hurried down to the first floor, careful not to let anyone know of their presence.
"We have to be extra quiet," Sienna breathed as they slid into the girls lavatory. "Gainer is on hall duty. Imagine what she'd do to us if she found us out here.
"We better not find out, then," Silvia replied, slipping the cloak off. "Myrtle? Myrtle, are you here?"
A soft whining erupted from the third stall.
"She's here," Sienna commented. Silvia nodded in response.
"Myrtle, it's me, Silvia."
Myrtle phased through the door. "What do you want?"
"We were curious about... about how you died."
The ghostly girl straightened her posture and gazed around the room before speaking once more. "I suppose you think that whatever killed me is what attacked Olive's nephew." She giggled. "Well, it wasn't, you see, the thing that killed me, well," she paused, "Well, it didn't really attack me so much as..." She trailed off, wailing.
"Wait!" Sienna called. "What do you mean?"
Myrtle screeched. "It killed me just by looking at me."
The girls exchanged glances before Myrtle continued to speak.
"Yes. I was in here," she pointed to a nearby stall, "crying, as usual, when, suddenly, I heard a voice. I thought it must have been someone trying to bully me again. He was hissing at me. The sound was so awful. I opened the door to tell him to leave me alone. That's when I saw two glowing yellow eyes, right over there. That was the last thing I saw when I was alive." She pointed to the sinks.
Silvia and Sienna stared at the nearby sinks as Myrtle vanished in a toilet. "The sink?" Sienna asked. "Is Myrtle trying to tell us that a sink killed her?"
"Well, I dunno, maybe she..." Silvia was at a loss for words.
"This is ridiculous!" Sienna declared. "This girl's clearly loony, she's been dead so long with nothing but a bathroom to keep her company. Of course she would believe that a sink killed her. Plus, she told us that some boy was hissing. There's absolutely no correlation between the events."
"Could something have come out of the sink?"
"Nothing that's big enough to kill her, Silvia. It still doesn't tell us where the Chamber of Secrets is."
Silvia looked dejected. "What do we do now? Everyone's going to think my brother attacked Hermes." She wiped a tear.
Sienna stood in front of her friend in confusion. "Let's just... How about we go see what the Unknown Soldier thinks? Maybe he can piece Myrtle's story together."
"Maybe." Silvia sniffed. "Alright," she declared, smiling, "let's go."They tiptoed through the castle under the invisibility cloak once more, carefully avoiding anything that could get them into trouble.
"This is it," Silvia confirmed, motioning toward a nearby door.
"How do you know?"
"I just have a feeling," she admitted. "Ever since we met, I've been drawn toward this room."
She pushed the door open revealing the room of her dreams. Blue light glistened upon the perfectly preserved body of the Unknown Soldier. His ghost rose from the body to watch as the two girls revealed themselves from under the cloak.
"Silvia!" The Unknown Soldier cried. "Have you come to return my leg?"
"No, I'm sorry," Silvia said softly. "But, we think we know where it is."
"Oh, my. Where do you think it could be?"
"The Chamber of Secrets."
The soldier's heart fell. "Oh, I sure hope not. No one knows where it is." He looked around his room, dejectedly. "Well, Silvia, thanks for trying. I thought that you would do anything for the ones you love, but, I was sadly mistaken." He fell back into his body.
Silvia began to cry. "This is hopeless! We're never going to find the Chamber of Secrets like this."
"Let's just go back to Gryffindor Tower," Sienna said in a comforting tone. "Let's get some sleep. We can look for the Chamber tomorrow."
"Forget about it," Silvia said, smearing tears across her face. "There's no point. A couple of first years can't save the school."
They stepped out of the room and slipped on James's invisibility cloak. Just as the two had reached a tapestry depicting Barnabas the Barmy, Sienna said, "I need a place to sleep now. The tower feels like it's miles away." That's when a door across the hall began to take form. Silvia and Sienna exchanged glances.
"Should we go in?" Silvia whispered.
"Maybe it has a nice, soft bed for me. Let's go," she yawned.
Together, they pushed the door open, revealing a big room, empty, with the exception of two beds accompanied by soft pillows and warm blankets. Sienna buried herself in one of them. Within seconds, she was snoring.
Silvia carefully approached the bed. She crawled into it. It was surprisingly comforting. It reminded her of her bed at home. Without thinking, she put her head down. Next thing she knew, she was sound asleep. James Potter's cloak slid to the floor as Silvia nestled her head between the pillows.
Maybe she and Sienna didn't find the Chamber of Secrets that night. However, in that moment, what they found instead was so much better.
