Running into Love

Chapter 12

I felt my body fall down on to the pavement; I pulled out my phone and pressed the first number on my contact list.

“Heya whats going on chicky babe?” Danni’s voice rang through the phone.

“Dan” my voice sounded weak and small. “It’s happening again”

“J where are you, I’m getting in my car now.” Her voice rapidly changing from happy and upbeat, to worried yet steady.

“I’m sitting outside Valley High Schools” I replied, as I took in my surroundings.

“ill be there in 3 minutes, just stay on the phone” Danni said in one breath as I heard her picking up keys and yelling out to someone that she would be back soon.

“J start breathing like I taught you, in and out, slow breaths, concentrate on the sound of my voice and your breaths.” 

In, out, in, out, in, out, my breaths slowly becoming calmer, my hands becoming less shaky and my heart beat slowing, as I heard only my breathing and the sound of Danni’s voice.

“J I can see you, just keep breathing.”

Next thing I knew I heard a door slam shut and Danni’s small frame crouching next to me.

“J keep breathing and tell me what happened?"

In, out, in, out. “I started to think about me and Jessie and what could happen on Friday night and then my head started to compare, and it started up again.”

“J everything is going to be fine. Jessie really likes you and from the sounds of it, he is nothing like Cohen.”

 Just hearing his name said aloud caused my heartbeat to speed up, my hands began to shake again and tears quickly escaped my eyes, dropping down on to my shirt.

“ J, Jane” Danni’s voice now sounding strong.

“Calm down ok, everything is going to be fine. You are a strong girl, even if the worst happens you will get through it. What is your motto?”

“What causes you pain only helps makes you stronger.” I recite the words over and over in my head as Danni hugged me, rubbing circles on my back.

My heartbeat and breaths returned to normal. The tears that were once running down my face now dried up. 

“Thanks Dan, I don’t know what I would do without you.” I said to Danni as I pulled away from our hug.

“Hey, Best Friends are there for each other at all times remember” Danni said as she helped me up from the pavement.

I hugged Danni again before opening her car door and getting into the passenger seat. I pushed the down button on the window and felt the wind start to flow past my face as Danni drove towards my house. She pulled in to my driveway and turned off the cars ignition.

“Do you want me to stay over J? We could watch Friends and eat junk food” Danni asked me as I unbuckled my seat belt.

“That sounds great Dan. You know just how to cheer me up. Do you need to get anything from home? I’m pretty sure some of your clothes are in my draws some where,” I said to Danni as we both got out of her car and headed towards my front door.

“Cool I will just get mum to drop off my work clothes, so I can get ready here.” Danni replied as we both stepped through my front door.

“Hey mum I’m back. Dan’s gonna stay over tonight” I yelled out knowing my mum wouldn’t ask any questions as to why my Best Friend was staying over. Danni and I stayed at each other’s houses enough that our parents had become use to it.

I fell back on to my bed letting out a sigh, as Danni jumped onto the other side of my bed, she started to flick through my DVD collection, trying to decide what season of Friends to watch.

“So what made you start thinking about him again?” Danni asked as she continued to flick through my DVDs.

“I saw him with some blonde chick, on my way home and I guess I just let it get to me” I said staring at the roof of my room.

“Jane, you guys stopped being friends like 4 years ago. You weren’t even together as a couple, just friends. I think its time you moved on from what ever your relationship was and stop letting him get to you, you can’t let him keep causing you to have panic attacks.”

“I know I know but every time I see him or go near his house everything starts to boil back up to the surface again. We had a weird relationship, I don’t really know how to explain it but it was like he wanted to be more then friends but then other times it was like he was embarrassed to be with me.” I took a deep breath, tears started build in my eyes. I turned over, spotting one of the motivation pictures I had stuck to my wall,

‘Cry as hard as you want to but just make sure that when you stop crying, you never cry for the same reason again’.

“You know what, screw him, I deserve to move on and be happy. We were never anything more than friends. Thanks for the tough love Dan. I needed it.” I grabbed one of the Friends DVDs out of the stack and put it in the player.

“I’m gonna have a shower, can you grab some chips and drinks, you know where they are.” I said to Danni as I hauled myself off my bed and towards the shower.

“Yeh sure thing J, I’m glad you finally took my tough love in” she said standing up and heading towards the kitchen.
