Running into Love

Chapter 28

The next morning Jessie and I went to the local shops and brought a whole bunch of stuff to decorate Gemma’s hospital room. Big fake sunflowers, 4 different coloured stuffed giraffe toys about 1 meter in height, thick coloured ribbon and a whole bunch of different party hats and funny glasses. We also went to the photo shop and printed out some favourite photos of Gemma’s that we knew she already had in her room. We headed to hospital with three large bags full of all the stuff we had brought. The second we walked into Gemma’s room and she saw the bags, her face lit up.

We spent the next hour decorating the room. We hung ribbon around Gemma’s bed, placed the giraffes to the end of the bed and next to the spare chairs, placed the sunflowers on either side of Gemma’s bed head and stuck the photos all over the cabinet near the bed. Also everyone put on a hat and/or glasses. Gemma was wearing a flower crown, Mary had a clown hat, Richard had a sailor hat, Ashton a bowler hat with moustache glasses, Jessie a teddy bear beanie and I had on a tiara and love heart shaped glasses. When the doctor walked in with the nurse they smiled wide. They said they had never seen a room so bright nor a family so dedicated to make a patient happy. The doctor told us that Gemma’s vitals were looing good and she would be out of the hospital within a week.

The next week was spent at the hospital visiting Gemma and seeing how she was recovering. Diane rang the day after we got home to see how we were all doing and asked me to ring her everyday with updates. They also sent a ‘Get Well’ basket to the hospital full of lollies, chocolates and chips. Gemma’s face broke into a massive smile when she found out there were sour worms, her favorites.

Gemma’s doctors said she was doing really well and allowed her to go home. We packed up all the decorations and Gemma’s belongings. We donated the decorations to the hospital and they said they would put them to good use in the children’s ward. We headed to Jessie’s family home and settled Gemma in her room. She was still on strong pain medication and it knocked her out pretty good. Jessie and I snuggled up on the couch as we watched TV.

“Beautiful?”

“Yeh handsome” I said as I looked up at Jessie’s deep brown eyes.

“Would you be ok if I stayed here for a while longer? With mum, dad and Gem” Jessie asked.

“Of course Jessie, you need to be with your family right now, I understand. Diane has asked me to be back by Friday so I have 3 more days here and then I fly back, we can organize flights for you later on when your happy to come back” I said as I moved closer to Jessie, embracing in his warmth.

“Are you sure Jane?” Jessie asked as he hugged me tighter.

“Of course. I would never ask me to leave your family over me. Gem most of all needs you now” I replied.

“You really are the best you know that” Jessie said as he smiled at me, his dimples becoming obvious.

“I know I am” I said as I smirked.

Jessie and I spent the next three days enjoying our time together, knowing we would soon be apart for a while. We went to our hill and had burgers, we visited my family and friend, and hung out with Gemma, watching movies and relaxing.

Seeing Danni was one of the best days. We spent the day at my house watching movies and eating junk food.

“JANE, JESSIE!” Danni yelled when we pulled up outside her house to pick up her and Harry.

“DANNI, HARRY!” I yelled back as I engulfed my best friend into a hug. Seeing her in person was much better then seeing her on skype or talking to her over text or phone.

“How have you been Dan? I’ve missed you” I said as we pulled back from each other.

“So good. I have missed you too J. I need my girl time” Danni said as she poked Harry in the side and he stuck his tongue out at her.

“Hey Harry, you been looking after my Dan?” I say to Harry as I engulf him in a hug.

“Of course” Harry replied as I took Jessie’s hand and we headed back to the car 

We drove to the shops and grabbed food and drinks. In the end we had 4 bags of lollies, 2 family sized blocks of chocolate, 5 bags of chips, 4 different types of drinks (1 type of drink for each person) plus 4 tubs of ice cream. To say the least we had a lot of food.

We headed to my house and set up in my room. Jessie and I had one side of the bed and Danni and Harry had the other. I sat in-between Jessie’s legs and laid back on his stomach as he wrapped his arms around me. Harry and Danni did the same with a bag of caramel popcorn sitting on Danni’s lap as she began to fill her face.

“Dan, really?” I said to her as I chuckled.

“Whatt?” she said as she shoveled more popcorn into her mouth.

“Seriously Harry what do you see in her?” I asked as I continued to laugh. I could feel Jessie’s body shake behind mine as he tried his best to contain his laughter.

“Sometimes I do wonder” Harry said as he stared at Danni in amazement as to how much she could eat, she had already polished off a bag of chips and 2 cokes.

“Hey you all know you love me” Danni said as she grabbed the chocolate.

“Yeh yeh Dan of course we do” I said as I got up to put in the next movie.

We spent the whole day watching movies, chatting and catching up. We only stopped the movies to get some lunch and dinner, chips and lollies were just not cutting it. Next thing we knew, it was 9pm and Danni and Harry had to head home.

“I will talk to you later J” Danni said as she pulled me in for a big hug.

“Yeah I will text you my flight details so you can send me off yeh?”

“Of course I wouldn’t miss it”

I hugged Harry goodbye too and waved out the window as Jessie and I backed out of Danni’s driveway after dropping them off.

Just 1 day left and then I headed back to England, without Jessie.
