TW: mentions of R*pe and abuse
You may think that after all the movements, marches, and laws that women would stop being oppressed. But sadly that is not the case.
Wage gap, rape culture, patriarchy, male entitlement, lesbophobia, transphobia (especially against trans women in this case), gender roles, gender expectations, beauty standards, prejudice against femininity, judgement based on gender, etc are all into play here. If you're not sexist or a moron, the fact that women are oppressed in the western society and really anywhere at all is way too obvious and may not come as a surprise to you. A lot of the population follows some pretty sexist beliefs.
Religion particularly Christan, Catholic, Hinduism and Islam all have very clear anti-feminine messages in their holy scripts. While a handful of people in these religions do not follow these literally (which is totally fine) ,there is a large portion who do, and who will even harass or kill someone because of it.
Women are still oppressed. Probably less than centuries before where they were not allowed to even work, but it is still there and still a very big problem.
Now onto the part two of this rant. Where are women the most oppressed?
Women are oppressed by a core part of western society through thought and tradition. But they legally cannot be oppressed by law. Although women are still oppressed in the WW, they will inevitably be no more in the future. We live in a world where the value of a women is reduced to her sexual allure which can be bore empowering than rejecting that, and we as a society have come to great lengths from women not even able to vote at all, to women running for president. What I am trying to say is that eventually there will be a time where stigma against women (at least in the western world) will be reduced dramatically. Just like how it has since the 20th century.
So this leaves to other countries in the world.
It is 2017, and in Saudi Arabia, women can't drive at all and can only go to the doctor if they have consent from their father or husband. Not only is abuse such as beating accepted there, but men are actually expected to beat their wives for all sorts of things. They are raised like toys and traded like money. Women are even stoned to death for the stupidest things there. In many countries in Africa female genital mutilation is rising, seen as tradition, and nobody even WANTS to stop it. I mean, just look at India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh, where women are raped regularly, beaten, forced into arranged marriages, and are pressured to have lots of children against their will. Although Women in the west face an imbalance in pay and discrimination, they are certainly are not AS oprressed as the ones living in developing countries and third world countries, who are basically treated, and seems as shit.
So what is my opinion on this? Yes, women ARE oppressed, (especially trans women) but in places like the Middle East and most of Asia, etc, women are the target to many harsh treatments and are the most oppressed.
