“Welcome to Switzerland.” Niall said and I just stared, open mouthed at the scene around me.
We’d landed further up in the mountains, I could tell because of the temperature and the fact that if you looked far enough, you could see the edge of the mountain and what sloped down from there.
Niall handed me a large coat and I gratefully put it around my body. He then led me to a waiting car and a man on the plane brought our bags and my presents.
“Niall, I can’t believe you did this.” I said a few minutes later. We’d arrived at where we were staying and I was surprised to see it was a small chalet; just perfect for two people.
The large windows faced the edge of the mountain so when you looked out them, you could see for miles and miles; across and down the hill. The building was wooden, and a small fire was burning to keep the house warm. When you walked in, you were in the living room, where there was a loveseat facing the fireplace. There was a bookshelf in the corner and it was filled with novels in Swiss German, French, Italian, and even a few in Romansh. I turned from the bookshelf to see the kitchen that was on the other side of the large room. It was fairly modern, but had a few appliances I’d never seen before and wouldn’t even attempt to guess what they did. I looked up the stairs and saw a bathroom and one bedroom which I decided I should check out; and it took my breath away.
In the middle of the room was a large white bed that faced the amazing view that could be seen through the one paned glass wall. The four-poster bed was massive, and there were small night tables on either side of it. I noticed there wasn’t a television or computer to be seen, nor was there Wi-Fi or a cell signal; the only link to civilization was the land-line.
“Well, what do you think?” I turned around to see Niall standing in the doorway to the bedroom, holding our bags with a nervous smile on his face.
Instead of answering, I walked over to him and kissed him forcefully. His immediate response was to drop the bags and pull me closer to him, and we stayed lip-locked for a while before we both had to pull away for air.
“Niall, this is the most amazing thing ever. I can’t believe you did this for me.” I said as he lent his head down to press his forehead to mine, “How long are we here for?”
“Two nights,” Niall said, “And I have plenty planned in that time.”
“Oh really?” I questioned, quirking an eyebrow, “Like what?”
“Well, skiing, exploring a little and a few surprises.” He told me
“Skiing?” I asked excitedly; I hadn’t skied in so long.
“Ya, you like skiing, right?” he asked and I nodded my head vigorously.
“Can we go now?” I asked bouncing on the spot, and Niall laughed before agreeing.
We spent the rest of the day on the slopes of Switzerland, and it was amazing. Niall had brought everything we’d need and we left our chalet and headed to a remote area he’d picked out before doing runs all day long. By the time we decided to head back, it was already 5:00.
“That. Was. Amazing!” I breathed out as I plopped onto the couch back at the chalet, and shivered.
“Why don’t you go have a bath? I’ve got a few things to do before supper.” Niall told me. I nodded in agreement, hoping a good soak would warm me up. I went to the bookshelf I’d seen earlier and plucked a few random books off, in a bunch of different languages, as well as the English book Eleanor had gotten me for when I gave up trying to read in languages I didn’t know.
A few hours later, I was clean and toasty warm. I went back to the bedroom and opened the bag Niall had packed for me. Inside were all the necessities and I picked out a pair of comfy jeans and a white t-shirt with a Jack Wills, zip-up sweater over top and a pair of fuzzy socks.
