John's POV
The medics started treating me, putting weird herbs and creams on my bruises. They pressed alcohol to clean my cuts against my face and stomach.
But all I really wanted to do was sit by Brielle's side.
My head shot up at the sound of screaming. Brielle's screaming. The medics around me assured she was okay. I guess they were cleaning her cuts. I mean, they were pretty deep.
I wanted to talk to her. After weeks of not touching her, hearing her voice. I wanted to know every detail, every redcoat who hurt her.
While the medics finished up things, I thought about Brielle and Eliza and how they were taken. And these casualties never crossed my mind, I always expected to die in war.
But I didn't want that any more. Yes, I wanted to fight for my country, but I wanted a life. A life with Brielle.
And who knows, she might get kidnapped again, maybe this time not returning. Or maybe I would die in war, fighting with my friends for freedom.
Anything could happen, these are dark times.
Therefore, I need to start my life, like now.
The medics FINALLY finished, and I walked over to Washington who was sat by Brielle.
"Did she fall asleep?" I asked, glancing at her peaceful features.
"Passed out from the pain." He mumbled.
Eliza walked by hand in hand with Hamilton. "And leave her that way." She said. "She hasn't slept the entire time, the only time she shut her eyes was from blood loss."
Washington and my eyes flashed with worry.
"Mrs. Hamilton, if you don't mind, what exactly happened while you were taken?" General Washington asked.
A look of sadness took over Eliza's face and Hamilton squeezed her hand reassuringly. "It's best if Brielle and I explain together. Most of the time we were separated anyway, sir."
"Alright thank you. I expect you to stay present here until the rest of the soldiers leave."
"Thank you." Eliza stated, smiling slightly.
Wait until Angelica and Peggy find out of their sisters rescue. I can only picture their faces. Eliza will most likely write to them as soon as she gets to the tent.
"Laurens please let us know as soon as Brielle wakes, Herc and Lafayette are a mess." Alex added to which I nodded.
Then her and Hamilton walked out, most likely to head to our tent.
A moment of silence occurred when both Washington and I sat by Brielle's side, most likely feeling the same things.
I scanned her face which held a bruised cheek and small cuts. I couldn't help but notice how peaceful she looked. Her eyes were closed, relaxed, and her lips held a calm expression.
She was finally at peace.
I decided to break the silence with a thought I wasn't sure if I should ask.
