"Two more days, Amber. How do you feel about being able to sleep in your own bed in 48 hours?"
Michelle's words make my face light up with joy.
"In 48 hours, I'm going to eat something besides waffles and meatloaf."
She chuckles. "Glad to see you're doing so well, Amber."
. . .
"Well..umm, I guess I'm just not comfortable in my own skin.."
As Blaine shares nervously in group therapy, Ethan and I constantly exchange brief eye contact.
A small smile appears on his face every time he jerks his head away. Its one of those dorky smiles, where someone's dimples visibly enfold, and their face turns blood red.
"Well, Blaine. Thank you for being brave enough to share the with all of us." Michelle stands up and lightly applauds him.
Emily sneers towards Ethan as he playfully bounces his eyebrows at me. She then directs her gaze towards me. My expression turns blank and I instantly look away.
"We have a special announcement today.." Michelle continues. "Our friend Connor here is discharging today."
My eyes slightly widen as I peer over at Connor. Shockingly enough, he's smiling.
Connor never smiles. He barely even opens his mouth.
"So, Connor."
The smiling boy looks up at Michelle and stands.
"Since today is your discharge, and Blaine still hasn't been here over 24 hours, why don't you give him a little word of advice?"
Blaine's face turns bright red, and I hear Emily scoff of boredom.
"Well, uh..I'd just say, at first, you're going to hate this place." Connor starts.
I bite the inside of my lip as I hear those words.
"But after a while..it's not as bad. You get used to it." He says. "Just know that its a good opportunity to help with your mental health."
I smirk to myself as I hear the accuracy of that statement.
All of a sudden, I feel warm, soft skin on my left hand. I look up in a sudden motion and see people scattering. Group therapy is over.
I look to my right and see Ethan, holding my hand in his, with a weak smile on his thin, pale face. "I need to talk to you about something."
