"Just do it, man." Scott groans, hoisting himself up onto the island of the kitchen. "It's been like two months since you've known her. You talk to her all the time, you two get-"
"I talk to her mostly about Reina and I," I interject. "That's not the same thing."
"And Reina is living with Carter, correct? She's moved on Justin. It's been a year since the two of you have been apart. Ramsey is the closest thing I've seen you get to happiness in a long time." He pauses and clears his throat before he says, "I just want to see you happy again man."
I crack open a beer and set it down onto the countertop, shrugging my shoulders before I look down at my shoes. I don't know how I feel about asking Ramsey out yet. We talk all the time, sure, but I don't know if she thinks of me as more than just a friend. If I do go for it, I want to make sure that I'm ready.
"Things with Reina picked up a little bit last month though." I reply. "She let me stay over, which was new for us. I thought that we were getting somewhere."
"That's because you were drunk. Has she even called or texted you since that night? She was gone when you woke up man. Didn't even say goodbye."
"Fuck, Scott. I know." I mutter harshly. "It's not easy trying to move on."
"And it won't get any easier until you put yourself out there. Ramsey seems like a cool girl. Just ask her to the movies or something bro, it doesn't have to be anything serious. If it sucks, then you know you aren't ready. But if you never try, then how are you ever going to forget about Reina?" He slides another beer over to me once he's finished, and all I can manage to do is let out a laugh.
"I hate it when you're right." I smirk.
"Scott." Casey groans, entering into the kitchen in annoyance. "I told you to put the clothes in the dryer an hour ago." Her hair is in an extremely messy bun, just a loose pair of sweatpants clinging onto her hips. "Hey Justin." She sighs once she finally sees me.
"Hey." I laugh again, furrowing my eyebrows together. "You good?"
"I'm fine. Just really tired."
Scott slides off of the island, his arm going around her waist to try and calm her down. "Babe." he presses. "I'll do it in a couple of minutes, alright? You need to go upstairs and sleep. Get some rest."
"I'm about to get going anyways." I say to the both of them, patting Scott on the shoulder. "So he can do that laundry right now, right Scott?" I see him send me a dirty look out of the corner of his eye, until he finally smiles and reaches out to grip my forearm.
"Of course. That way you can go and call Ramsey. Ask her out. Right?"
Casey's eyes widen a little bit, but she doesn't say anything. She just sends me a reassuring smile to let me know that she agrees with Scott.
"Maybe," I tease. "I'll let you guys know."
-----
I haven't felt this nervous in ages. I haven't actually picked someone up for a date for the first time in years. My palms are sweating, my heart is racing, and for a second I want to just say screw it and get right back into my car. The thought of Ramsey being all ready though and finding out I stood her up doesn't exactly appeal to me though, so I knock on her door and shove my hands into the pocket of my jeans. I decided on wearing this red button down shirt and jeans, but the collar on my shirt keeps coming up. She's probably going to think I look like a trainwreck.
When she opens the door I'm not really sure what to say. Her hair is straightened, and she's got this red dress that hugs in her body in a million different ways. I'm trying to come up with something to say, but I'm honestly speechless. She looks so stunning.
