Chapter 17

           

We trained for almost two weeks, I forgave Zander for the monster incident long ago, he still annoys me though, I learned how to control my powers, I might have burned a few things in Mare's garden, nevertheless I started being in control.

Zander took it upon himself to teach my how to fight, it's been like a MMA course but private, it was fine with me because I'm already into it; Jenna sent me to attend MMA classes back when I was young but I stopped because I didn't like the coach, now it doesn't matter whether I like Zander as a coach or not, I have no other choice.

He promised to teach me swords fighting when I accidentally found the weapons room, they have awesome collection of weapons.

I called Jenna and Rina almost every day, but I wanted to meet them so much, Mare promised to let me go for a day to spend it with them, now that Jenna knows I am not really camping or something,

I decided to meet them today, but Zander refused to let me go without showing me something, he said it's important I know it, so here I was standing in the weapons room waiting for him.

I held a sword in my hands and weighted it. The sword was very heavy indeed, I balanced it on one hand. I liked how it felt to be holding a sword like a warrior. Just when I was about to swing the sword I heard Zander

"Come on, put that thing down" he said annoyingly.

"Fine, relax. I won't kill myself " I Chuckled at the thought of flinging the sword at Zander but I decided not to.

I turned to look at Zander and he was smirking at me, his eyes were shining. He looked like a five years old who's very excited for a cake or something

"What now?" I asked eyeing him.

"Why did you put it down?" he asked smiling slyly

"do you intend to drive me insane, Zander?" I blurted out "You just told me to put it down" I finished and oh dear he was smirking now and I was really getting mad.

"I did not" he said, I was about to argue but he said "look at me" so I did then he said "this is a nice dress" my face turned more red than it was as I remembered I was wearing a blue maxi dress with long sleeves.

I looked back at him and suddenly it hit me that he didn't open his mouth at all and I thought

'What the ..'  his voice cut me off 'Don't curse it's impolite' and he was not speaking. I was shocked and overwhelmed but I managed to ask him out loud

"Did you just say' Don't curse it's impolite' ?"

"No" he replied, he looked like he was fighting a smile.

I thought I was definitely going mad.

" I thought That " he said.

"You and I can direct thoughts at each other" he said simply when he noticed that I was not going to speak.

"How did you know?" I asked.

He strode to the couch, and sat down I followed him but sat on the chair opposite to the couch.

" That day when you were fighting what you call the ice creature, I thought like I heard your silent cry, but I thought I was just imagining this. Then in the past two weeks, I started hearing you shouting at me." He laughed and completed " or cursing at me. At first, I thought you were speaking to me but then every time I react to what I think you said, you look genuinely ignorant of what you said that's when I figured out that I can hear your thoughts"

I was thrilled and afraid really like; it's awesome that you can speak telepathically to someone but afraid because I don't really remember what I told him or what he heard in general.

"How did you know that I can hear you too?" I asked at last.

"i made sure you can't see my face then, I directed my thoughts at you in the form of questions or orders and you simply replied." I thought about this and shrugged.

And it's been two weeks and you just remember to mention this now, I thought sarcastically

'you were not ready' I heard his voice in my head. wow this is just amazing but annoying, I thought

'tell me about it, I had to put up with your inner thoughts all week' he thought and I laughed.

" how did I not figure it out?" I asked.

" I tried not to direct my thoughts at you and it worked" he replied

" I can't hear everything you're thinking about, I only can when you are directing your thoughts at me" he explained.

"You and I are not done with this zander but I've got to go now" I said as I stood up and left to meet Jenna and Rina.

Four hours later, I returned to my temporary home.

I enjoyed the day today. Rina, Jenna and I laughed so much, I felt like I was drunk. The worst thing that happened today was saying good bye to them. Rina tried to know about what I've been doing the past two weeks but she couldn't get anything out of me, Jenna just gave me the 'it's ok I trust you look'.

I entered the house, apparently Mare and zander were out, I was very happy I literally skipped to my room, half an hour later they came back. I changed my clothes and made sure the window was closed or I will freeze when I return.

I went downstairs to help them put the dinner on the table and sat to eat, since today was Friday, it's movie night! Zander told me he and Mare always watch a movie together on Friday nights.

Last week I picked up the movie, I chose a horror one. Today it's Zander's turn, he picked up an action movie, I liked it very much but I was very tired, that I excused myself to go to bed.

Once in my room, I shivered the room was freezing.

I felt the cold breeze flowing from the opened window and kissing my face.

I did not leave the window opened, I looked around afraid that someone might be in the room but thankfully I was here alone. I moved to close the window but I stopped dead in me tracks when I saw a dead bird on the windowsill, shocked and disgusted I took I step backward and stared at the poor dead bird.

The bird's mouth held a white thing, it looked like a cigarette at first, I walked towards the bird and bowed down to look at its mouth, I almost laughed at my imagination, it was a piece of paper. I picked it up, it was smeared with blood, I had a bad feeling about this.

It was a message. I silently read

" if you wish to reunite with your mother and friend, bring the warlock in exchange for them, come or they die at the crack of dawn."

Jenna and Rina!! I was overwhelmed with shock. I will burn whoever did this alive. He or they will not survive this,

they left an address at the back of the paper leading to Maynard's woods. They want Mare in exchange for my family, I can't do this.

I put on some jeans and a black shirt and snuck to the weapons room, I took two daggers and snuck out of the backdoor, I tried to avoid Zander and Mare. If i told them, They won't let me out of here,

I sprinted through the streets afraid of losing the people i love, Jenna and Rina are everything I have, Mare is everything Zander have and I am not sacrificing any of them.

I ran till I reached the woods and got swallowed by its darkness.
