Ashley was only six when she realised she was in love with Lauren.
The two girls met when they were three though. Lauren had moved from Baldwin to New Jersey right next door to Ashley.
Ashley had never been more excited in her whole life! She had a new friend right next door to her!
She remembered the day Lauren moved in and the big white vans that came up the street, filled with furniture. They put it in every room and arranged it just like Ashley did with the furniture in her dollhouse.
Ashley's parents, Chris and Nicole, invited Lauren and her parents inside the house,both to keep Lauren away from the workers and to get to know their new neighbours.
Ashley couldn't believe it when she saw the other girl!
"Hi!! I'm Ashley!!"
Lauren smiled "Hiii! I'm Lauren!"
"Do you wanna play with me? I have dolls and a dollhouse and teddy bears!"
Lauren clapped "Yeah!!!"
They ran up the stairs to Ashley's room and played with Ashley's barbie dolls and her dollhouse and they did that every day for three years straight.
They had a routine.
Everyday at three o'clock after Lauren had her lunch, she'd knock four times on Ashley's door. Ashley would answer and they'd do their secret handshake before going up the stairs to play with Ashley's dolls. The dolls had different names and personalities every day but Ashley's doll always had to be older.
But the day she let Lauren's doll be older was the same day she fell in love with Lauren. May 22nd 2000.
At three o'clock, on this day, Lauren knocked and they did the handshake the minute the door opened before Ashley let her up the stairs.
"Hey Ashley?"
"Yeah??"
"Do you think my doll could be older today?" Lauren had asked.
Ashley frowned "But I'm older!"
"Pleaseee I really really really really really REALLY want to"
"Hmm, okay but on one condition"
Lauren giggled "Okay"
"You've to kiss me" Ashley smirked
"Ew! Ashley, that's gross! Girls don't kiss each other!"
Ashley laughed hysterically "Says who?"
"I don't know! God? My mom? Santa??"
Ashley giggled even more "Oh come on! It'll be fun!"
"But I've never kissed anyone before" admitted Lauren
"Not even your mom?" Ashley asked incredulously.
Lauren shook her head and blushed "No..." She looked like she was going to cry.
