I knew from the moment our eyes met we'd become someone beautiful.
I saw her from across the room, in the middle of a crowd. I knew her, I had spoken to her before in group chats online but in person she was so much more.
She looked tough with tattoos inked on her skin but her face was kind and I fell in love with her kind face.
I was afraid to talk to her for the fear of rejection so I plucked a small flower from the vase on the table and I walked in the direction towards her.
Luck was on my side because those she was in conversation with left, moved on to say hello to someone new. I grabbed the opportunity.
"Hi" I said
She smiled "Hi"
I held the flower out to her "For you"
She smiled from ear to ear "Thank you! I love flowers"
Before she could take it, I pushed it gently into her hair, behind her ear. She smiled at me "Thank you"
We stood there sort of gazing at each other, in silence, a silence that was more comforting rather than awkward. She broke it however by asking about my tattoo, peaking from under the sleeve of my shirt. I responded by showing it to her and explaining the meaning.
She seemed genuinely interested and it led to a long conversation about tattoos, tattoo artists, prices of them and what other ones we wanted.
We sat in the corner, oblivious to the rest of the room. It was just us.
I asked her about her favourite flowers once the conversation about tattoos was over.
"I love all of them. And plants. I really like sunflowers, my neighbour has some growing. I have so many plants though. I just love nature"
She was so passionate about nature. I rested my head on her shoulder and she talked about the plants she owned and the ones she wanted and she spoke about the flowers in her garden.
The night drew to a close and she walked me home. Soon, she slipped her hand into mine and I didn't mind.
We stopped outside my gate and I picked a pansy and handed it to her "Can I see you again flower girl?"
"Of course" she kissed me on the cheek and left, clutching the small flower to her chest, while I clutched my face and wish to feel her lips on my skin again.
