I sighed, waiting for my girlfriend to come home. I had a long day and worst of all, no one even remembered that it was my birthday.

I thought, you know, maybe they had all pretended to forget about it. But it was 6:52pm and if there was gonna be a surprise party, I would've been told by now.

I curled myself up on the couch and wiped my eyes before turning on Netflix and searching for a movie to watch. I wanted something nice so I just settled for "Tangled" because it was my favourite Disney movie and it always made me smile.

I was happily humming along to Mandy Moore when I heard the key turn in the door and my girlfriend come home.

I lowered the volume and called out to her "Hey Ashley!"

"Hey babygirl!"

I turned towards her. In her arms, she held a big box wrapped in gold wrapping paper with a red bow on top "Happy birthday love!" she mumbled from behind the box.

I giggled "Aww thank you Ashley!!" I took the box from her arms and placed it on the couch before hugging her tightly and kissing her "You're the only one who remembered" I mumbled.

She tightened her grip on me "I'm sorry baby"

I let go of her pretty quickly though once I remembered the present "Can I open it?" I eagerly looked at her.

"Of course!" she laughed.

I pulled the lid off the box and looked inside.

I gasped loudly "OH MY GOD ASHLEY!"

I clapped my hands and squealed "A puppy! You got me a puppy!" I threw myself in her arms again, hugging her, before looking inside the box again.

The tiny puppy sat curled up in the box, with its little tail covering its nose and the small eyelids closed. I didn't want to wake the sleeping puppy so I turned and hugged Ashley tightly again.

"Thank you" I whispered "Is it a boy or a girl?"

"A boy"

"What are we gonna name him?"

We both peered inside the box again. I swear to god, my heart melted at the sight of the tiny doggy.

"What about Chocolate?" I asked, noting his mocha brown colour "Choco for short"

"That's cuuute. I love it! Chocolate"

I giggled "Now my car smells like chocolate"

Ashley rolled her eyes "Oh god, are you gonna quote the 1975 every day now?"

"You know it!"
