I placed the final of my boxes from the moving van in my apartment and after paying the driver and closing the door, I slumped onto the couch, exhausted. I had a nice view of the city from here but I nearly broke my spine carrying my stuff all the way up here.
Cocoa, my little corgi pup, struggled to jump up onto the couch beside me. I gently picked her up and placed her beside me. She got comfy and curled herself into a little fur ball.
I chuckled at her and switched on my tv, which I was thankful for the driver of the moving van for setting up. I didn't watch any of it, and I ended up falling asleep on the couch.

I woke up to the sound of Cocoa barking wildly and the sound of knocking on my front door.
I rubbed my eyes before trudging over to the front door and opening it.
Yawning, I opened my eyes to see a girl with black hair and a happy smile as she laid her eyes on Cocoa.
"Uh hello?"
"Hi! I heard your dog barking and I wanted to say hi!" She actually sat onto the floor to stroke Cocoa, who was wagging her tail with so much joy I half expected it to fall off.
I giggled at the sight "I'm sorry about her barking though, I was asleep"
"It's totally fine, I don't mind it at all"
I continued to giggle at how happy they made each other "Would you like to come in, I don't think sitting in the middle of the doorway is good for anyone"
She gently picked up Cocoa in her arms and came inside, only to sit on the floor again to play with the puppy.
I laughed loudly as I closed the door "We have a couch you know"
The girl shrugged "If she likes the floor, I like it too"
I took a seat beside her and rested my chin on my palm, just observing this mystery woman play with my dog.
She noticed me watch "I'm Ashley by the way. I live just next door to you"
"I'm y/n and I just moved in. Next door to you"
We spent most of the day just playing with my dog, throwing the tennis ball for her and stroking her.
After hours and hours of pictures and playtime, Cocoa fell asleep on Ashley's hoodie in the middle of the room, with her head resting gently on a few polaroids of us.
I took the opportunity to order Ashley and I a pizza and get to know her a bit more.
"So go on, tell me about yourself" I smiled at her, sitting beside her on the couch.
She fingered with the hem of her t-shirt "Well um...I'm Ashley. I'm 19 and I go to the community college to do an art course. I really like painting and drawing. I have a job walking the dogs in the building, there's actually quite a few. But yours is the only one I've ever visited outside of work" she winked at me playfully, making me giggle.
"That sounds really cool! I'm y/n and [describe yourself]. I can't get a job so if you've any recommendations, hit me up please"
"You can do dog walking with me if you like! I charge $20 an hour. We could just split the money. I honestly don't mind"
I widened my eyes "Seriously?"
"Well yeah. I mean I like you already and you obviously like dogs, I don't see anything wrong"
I tackled her and gave her a massive hug "Thanks Ashley"
She wrapped her arms around me "You're welcome"
