For those of you who are reading my stories for the first time, I would recommend that you read A Twist of Fate first before you attempt this for there would be overlapping of characters and in case you start wondering ... Thanks!

Across boundaries

Prologue

The screen flashed slide after slide as the beady voice of the greying and

almost bald fifty-year-old man went on and on. I tried to stifle a yawn but

was caught with a glare from the stern looking man sitting across me.

I switched my attention to counting the number of strains of hair on this

guy's head. He did not fail to amuse me every time I see him for his bald

patch would appear more hilarious than the previous.

I squirmed in my seat fidgeting and praying for time to pass faster.

Somehow, time always seemed to stop during such presentations.

"It would be good if you can pay a little more attention during meetings,"

the stern-looking man reprimanded as soon as we stepped out of the

boardroom.

And this stern-looking man happened to be my brother-in-law. A very young man

indeed, for he was just five years older than me. I would probably call him by his name. But it never was good to be disrespectful, especially when the elders were around.

I yawned again. This time, I did not even attempt to stifle it.

He glared at me again.

"Cool it, Ven," I brushed him off. "You know how these meetings get to me."

"For a person who is to be the future CEO of the company, you sure don't

look like it," he sighed.

"You can have it if you want," I shrugged.

He gasped, "Don't ever let Mia hear you say that!"

I laughed, "You're afraid she would really give it to you, aren't you?"

He rolled his eyes.

"But seriously, why wouldn't you take it?" I pouted. "Save me the trouble

of going to all these meetings."

"That's because you are the legal heir to the company. Since Mia is the

Queen, she has no time for it."

That again? It sounded like a pretty lame excuse to me. Of course, I was

aware that Mia, my dear old sister, the Queen was busy with the courtly and

state affairs. So, what would be the issue just to add in a meagre company?

"Whatever," I said.

"By the way, don't you have a plane to catch?" He asked suddenly.

"I think so..."

As if on cue, Sammy - my personal assistant, came running towards me.

"My Lady, we are running late," she panted.

"I'm well aware of that," I said solemnly and Venfred mused.

She gasped when she saw him, "Please pardon me, my Lord. I didn't see you."

She did a little bow.

"It's alright," he dismissed with a wave of his hand. "Best to be on time."

She nodded before turning back to me, "My Lady?"

*****

"I didn't know you are coming along," I smirked to a grinning Venfred who

was walking next to me.

"Change of plans," he chuckled.

"Did Mia sent you to keep an eye on me?" I asked.

"It'll be good to remember that you are still under training."

I rolled my eyes. "I know what I'm doing."

"Definitely," he pretended to bow.

I might not like the role that I had been assigned. But I, Allyson Renaldo,

was a responsible person and I would put in my hundred and one percent

effort to complete it.

So, despite loathing my CEO duties, I would still perform it as how a

responsible CEO would. And my sister, the Queen, knew it very well to use

it against me.

*****

An advantage of being a royalty was you got to board the plane first.

Usually we chose not fly by commercial planes for it was too much of a

hassle, but Mia had taken the royal plane out to Scotland for a discussion

with the Prime Minister.

The airport was filled with more guards than usual due to our presence. On

top of that, I was told that there was another group of VIPs flying on the

same flight. Hence, additional security from the airport.

As soon as the plane landed, I could not wait for the announcement to come

up for us to disembark.

I must make Mia get another plane, I thought. Commercial planes were such a

discomfort even the first class cabin.

"Dear Passengers, please kindly remain seated until the seat belt signs are

switched off."

I unfastened my seat belt and got ready for the next announcement.

"Sir, please kindly remain seated for your turn. We will be inviting the

front passengers to exit first." I heard the air stewardess telling the guy

sitting behind me.

Then there were chuckles.

Kids, I shook my head. Kids nowadays were so lucky to travel by first

class.

I stood up upon the next announcement and forgot that my Montblanc pen was

still on my jeans.

"Argh," I sighed in frustration.

It had rolled to the seat behind and the guy behind me had a foot on it. I

was surprised to see that he was actually around the same age as me.

"Excuse me?" I said.

He looked up at me, "Yes?"

"I believed my pen is under your foot."

He bent over to pick it up, "This?"

"Thank you," I said as I took it from his hand. His glare irritated me as if I was some sort of alien.

"Allie?" I heard Sammy calling out.

"Coming!" I grabbed up my red haversack and hurried to catch up.
