Across boundaries

Across boundaries >>II<<

It had been a terribly long day for me. Twelve hours straight in the board meeting. While other normal eighteen year-olds would probably be out in the sun, I had to be stuck listening to a group of men discussing the next procurement forecast.

I decided to sneak out of the hotel for a breather.

Since I was not as well-known as my sister, it was much easier to move around without security. As long as I informed them my whereabouts, they would simply keep their distance and give me my privacy.

"I'm going to that café across the street," I told the guard who was on duty. He nodded his understanding as he watched me on my way.

I slipped into the café easily. It was past ten and being a weekday, the café was almost deserted since it was in the business district area.

The waiter on duty was a young man in his twenties and spoke broken English.

After grabbing my macchiato, I settled into one of the window seats watching the cars passing by.

Just then, the bell rang out as someone pushed open to enter. A familiar blond haired guy walked in. He walked over to the counter, waited for his latte before he turned to search for a table. His eyes fell upon me before he broke into a smile.

When he reached me, he offered his palm and I looked up at him questioningly.

"I was told never to shake a lady's hand but to kiss it."

I broke into soft laughter.

I placed my hand in his palm which he took to his lips for a light feathery kiss. It left my fingers tingling.

"May I?" he asked with a hand on the chair across me.

I shrugged, "Please."

He looked around curiously as well as outside on the street.

I eyed him, wondering what he was doing.

"You are out alone?" he asked, surprised.

I blinked a few times, "I'm sorry?"

"Don't you have guards or something? There was like a bunch of them around you at the airport."

"Oh," I replied. That. "They are somewhere around."

He turned to look around again.

I chuckled, "You won't see them."

"How come?"

"My privacy," I replied simply.

His eyes were filled with questions but he asked nothing.

We sat there sipping out drinks when finally he spoke up, "I hadn't got your name..."

I looked at him but did not reply him immediately. After a minute of silence, I said, "You can call me Allie."

"Allie?"

"Just Allie."

"That's an interesting name, Just Allie," he chuckled.

I shrugged.

"So," he continued. "I'm not supposed to know who you are...?"

"There's nothing to know," I said. "I'm just Allie. Who do you think I am, anyway?"

He shrugged, "I don't know. Maybe the daughter of some Baron or Lord."

I wished my life was that simple.
