"Will you date me for real?"

I looked at the blond haired guy sitting across me, looking intently into my eyes. It had been a long time since I had sat down with a boy. Since Derek Kingston.

I had gone to a public school, just like any other Genovian. But everybody avoided me because I was a princess. Well, I had friends but only one best friend – Sammy. Sammy suffered the same fate as me. Nobody really wanted to get too close to us. And guys, they kept their distance. Only Derek Kingston.

It started off with a game of truth and dare. The guys were having a game in class one day when he was challenged to a dare. To ask me out.

He did.

He was an elite student – top in class, captain of the softball team as well as the class president.

He came up to me one day during break. "Would you go out with me?"

I had the longest crush on him since day one; since the first day of school when I was thirteen. I was overwhelmed when he asked me. Of course, I agreed immediately. Sammy had warned me but nevertheless, I still fell into the pit.

We dated for three months before I found out that it was all because of a game of truth and dare. I was totally flabbergasted. It took him another three months to win my heart all over again.

Then, we were together for another one year before he decided he had enough. The expectations of the royal family – from the late Queen, my grandmother, was too much too bear. He decided he was not up to it. He had been my first love and only one so far. Reality struck me hard as I grew older. No guy would want me as his wife – the responsibility was simply too great.

I looked at the guy sitting across me once again.

How much was I willing to give?

And how much was he ready to accept the real me?

"I do not date for the sake of dating," I said.

"Neither do I."

I looked at him in wonder.

"What?" he mused. "You think I'm joking?"

I shook my head. "I am a royalty..."

"So?"

"Do you know the responsibilities and consequences that come about with dating a royalty?"

"You can teach me..."

"I'm afraid it would be too much for you..."

He came over to me and kneeled before me, taking my hands in his. "How would we know if we never try?"

"Niall...," I said softly as I looked into his intense blue eyes. I searched into his eyes and saw only sincerity. I took a deep breath. "I'm not sure if I'm ready for this. Can we take it slowly first?"

His face broke into a small grin, "Of course, we can."

Just then, the ringing of the phone made the both of us jumped. I pulled my hands away as I reached out for the blaring phone. I pressed on the speaker mode.

"Yes?"

I saw Niall picking himself up back onto the chair.

"Allie, there's an incoming call from Demy," Sammy's voice came out loud and clear.
