Chapter One

I woke up for school at 7am and anxiously glanced at my phone. I was expecting a call, a VERY important call. I almost didn’t want to go to school in case I missed it, but they told me that they would call my mother if I didn’t pick up. I was so nervous, you don’t even know.

I couldn’t eat breakfast, much to the annoyance of my mother, I don’t even know why. I was just so nervous. I didn’t even know what to do with myself.

It was half past eight, and my boyfriend Caleb met me outside my house. He grabbed my hand and we slowly walked to school.

‘So, today’s the big day!’ He smiled, putting his arm around my neck.

‘God and don’t I know it!’ I nervously laughed.

‘I’m sure you’ll get it!’ He reassured.

‘I really want it, so bad! But I just don’t want to face the consequences of getting it.’ I said, leaning over to rest on him.

The day really dragged, to the point where I was counting each individual second of a minute. My first lesson was maths, and I learnt absolutely nothing. I sat, watching the clock constantly, occasionally stopping to look at my phone.

*No new notifications*

The first bell rang and I barged my way out of class. My best friend Melanie had waited for me outside of my class room and we walked together to drama.

‘You nervous?’ Mel said.

‘Bricking ice cubes.’ I said, with the straightest face I could pull.

‘That’s a new one!’ Mel laughed.

I laughed too, but it was because of either or all of the following:

A) I needed to pee really bad.

B) I really began to believe I was excreting blocks of ice.

C) I was about to puke with nerves.

We walked into drama late, I had to pee. There was nothing stopping me from voiding my bladder because with the nerves contained in me right now, I have no self-control.

Everybody was sat round the stage at the front, and the teacher glared at me.

‘Hannah, I hear today’s the big day?’ She said.

I nodded.

‘Well, make sure you tell us tomorrow!’ She smiled, breaking the tension. I sat down around the stage before being told about today’s lesson. We were doing expression techniques, and how to show emotion on stage. I didn’t really pay as much attention as I should have, I kept getting distracted. Every time I checked my phone, my background just flashed up before disappearing again, I just wanted it to say ‘1 Missed Call’ or ‘So and so is calling you’ but it wasn’t happening.

What if it was my phone?

Oh god.

Breathe in. Breathe out.

It was soon lunch, which was a relief. I went with Melanie and Caleb and a few of my other friends to sit on the field. The company said they were planning on ringing around lunch, so I threw my phone on the grass in front of me and glared at it intensively. Every so often Caleb would shove food in my mouth, which I would just swallow. I just glared at my phone.

It rang.

I glared at Caleb and Melanie and they nodded at me.

‘You’re going to miss the call boob, answer it!’ Melanie laughed.
