The plane stopped and I stood up, wiggling my legs to regain feeling in my rear. On the other side of the terminal, my best friend would be waiting for me. I waited impatiently for the attendants to open the doors and had to bite my tongue to stop myself yelling at them. The doors slid open and I shot out, closely followed by my mother. After passport checks and waiting for our luggage, I felt myself going insane. We finally made it to the door and I pushed it open, desperately searching for Melanie. I started to panic when I couldn’t see her and was shocked when she pounded into my left side. I dropped everything I was holding and hugged her with every bit of force I had in me, taking into account I was jetlagged. I started to sob with happiness and she did the same and we stood locked in a hug for the next five minutes.

‘I missed you so much!’ I said, finally breaking the silence.

‘I missed you too.  I want to know everything!’ She laughed.

‘Every last detail!’ I giggled. I smiled at her and retrieved my luggage from the floor. We made our way to the door and Melanie led her us to her mum’s car. My mum climbed in the front and Mel and I got in the back. I found it hard not to fall asleep, seeing as I spent most of the flight crying over the absence of my boyfriend. I think Mel picked up on this and held back on the difficult questions that would require some amount of thinking and stuck to basic ones. It only took around fifteen minutes to get to the hotel so she didn’t really have time to ask me any anyway. I got out of the car and held the door for Mel, mainly to stop myself from falling over because I was so tired. I grabbed as much of my luggage as I could carry and huddled into the hotel. We made our way to the elevator and headed to our floor. Our room was one of two rooms on the floor, but the other wasn’t occupied as far as I could see. Our hotel room was gorgeous. It had two bedrooms, both with on-suite bathrooms and a kitchen and living room area. The first thing that struck me was the baby blue walls, which is Cody’s favourite colour. It also struck me how much I missed him.

I slung my suitcase on the floor and sprawled out on the bed, just leaving room for Melanie to perch on the corner. I moved over a little bit and she attempted to sprawl out at the bottom of the bed.

‘I’ve missed this.’ Mel sighed.

‘Me too! Things aren’t the same without you around.’ I half smiled, half sighed.

‘I’m proud of you you know?’ She smiled, sitting up and perching her back on the bed post. I couldn’t really speak; I was so overwhelmed with what she’d just said.

‘Thank you. I’m proud of you too. Dang, I wish you could meet Cody and Alli. You and Alli would definitely hit it off!’ I said, tearing up thinking about them.

‘They sure sound like fun people! I’m sure I’ll meet them eventually. So, how’s LA? You having fun?’ She asked whilst smiling at me. She has a very comforting smile, one that tells you everything is going to be okay. And when I am with her, just like when I am with Cody, everything is okay.

Dammit. I miss him.

‘Hey, brainwave! Why don’t I see if Cody can FaceTime?’ I said excitedly.

‘Sure!’ Mel said, quickly grabbing her phone and I assume she texted someone.

‘Good, I’ll ring him, it’s easier than texting him.’ I smiled and fumbled around for my phone. Jetlag was slowly setting in and even basic tasks were becoming a bit of a blur. I dialled Cody’s number and waited for him to answer.

‘Hey angel!’ He said, laughing. I out my phone on speaker and threw it on the bed.

‘I miss you!’ I said.

‘Miss you more!’ He replied. I could hear mild sounds in the background like he was in a plane or something. I guess it must just be the reception.
