We slowly made our way back to Alli’s house and stopped on the drive because Alli dropped some stuff.
‘Blast!’ She said as I helped her pick them up. She stood up and her phone began to ring. I answered it for her and held it to her ear so she wouldn’t drop everything again, which was quite hard because I was carrying things as well, but it worked.
‘Okay, I’ll be there in about ten minutes!’ She said to whoever was on the end of the phone.
I hung up the phone and balanced the things I was holding before they fell.
‘I should be at a Pastry shoot now! The limo’s outside, so I’ll probably catch you tomorrow at the set! See you later.’ She said, running off before I had the chance to say goodbye.
‘Oh, just take the things to the kitchen, on the right!’ She shouted up the hill.
‘Okay, see you!’ I shouted back and she waved before disappearing from sight.
I opened the door and turned right, following the corridor. The walls were decorated with family photos and portraits. I followed the corridor all the way down and opened a door at the end. I began to half run at the end because I nearly dropped everything. I walked into the kitchen and walked over to the table. Suddenly somebody touched my back. I jumped half out of my skin and was close to excreting icicles.
‘Let me help you with that!’ A male’s voice said. I turned round quivering and nearly hyperventilating.
‘You scared me!’ I said and laughed.
‘Haha, sorry, thought you’d heard me come in, here, I’ll take those!’ Cody said, reaching to grab the objects out of my hands.
‘Thank you.’ I said, smiling. He was chivalrous, I liked it.
We both walked over to the table and dumped the towels, etc.
‘Are you enjoying the movie?’ He said, glancing at his phone.
‘It’s pretty cool, how was whatever you had to do?’ I said, laughing. I don’t really know why; guess I’m just so hilarious.
‘It was pretty legit, just recorded a new track for the album!’ He said smiling.
‘Oh, neat! I bet that’s pretty cool!’ I said.
‘Sure! It’s a dream come true!’ He said. We sat down at the table, talking about stuff and showing each other pictures of ‘home’.
My phone began to ring and I asked Cody if it was okay to answer it, as it was Melanie.
‘Go ahead!’ He said, looking back down at his phone.
‘Hey Mel! I miss you.’ I said.
‘Hey, yeah miss you too. Listen this is really important and you’ve got to promise me you won’t flip!’ She said in a rush.
‘Oh, sounds pretty serious. Sure I promise!’ I said. Cody looked at me with a confused look on his face and I shrugged my shoulders.
‘Right, okay. Umm.’
‘Spit it out Mel!’ I said impatiently.
‘Okay, okay. Well, it’s Caleb.’ She stuttered, sounding as if she couldn’t find the right words to say.
I stood up, making Cody look at me. ‘What, is everything okay, is he okay? Has something happened?’ I said.
*long pause*
‘He’s cheating on you.’ She said reluctantly.
I can remember just standing there, not knowing what to do.
‘Hannah? Hannah?’ I remember hearing down the phone.
‘No, you’re lying. He couldn’t, he wouldn’t!’ I said.
‘I’m sorry sweetie. I’ll ring you back later, I’m at school.’ She said sympathetically before hanging up.
‘Is everything okay?’ Cody said.
‘I’m sorry, I have to leave.’ I said, quickly grabbing my jacket and running out of the house. I got halfway down the drive when I heard Cody shout me.
‘Hannah? Wait.’ He shouted.
I turned around slowly and saw Cody running my way.
‘What’s up?’ He said.
I couldn’t even speak; I just fell into his arms and burst out crying. He put his arms around me and I felt him squeeze me tightly. It took some time, but I finally managed to form a sentence.
‘Caleb c.c.cheated on me.’ I said, choking on my tears.
‘Oh, that sucks! I’m sorry.’ He said, still hugging me.
‘How could he?’ I blurted, not really knowing what I was saying. ‘Four years.’ I said angrily.
‘Woah, four years aye? He doesn’t deserve you if he cheats.’ He said, pushing me out in front of him and holding my arms. He looked at me intensively and wiped my eyes on his sleeves. ‘I wouldn’t let you go if I had you, he’s stupid.’
‘Thank you.’ I said, half laughing at myself, more than anything.
‘It’s nothing. I’ll talk to you later, I’ve um... got to go.’ He said smiling and giving me a quick hug before running back up the drive. I smiled as I watched him run away, feeling so much better.
What just happened?
