If you don't know the song I've added to the chapter yet, listen to it! If there's one thing you should know about me it's that I'm a huge fan of The Weeknd. I don't usually call myself a fan of anyone, but this guy is fucking fantastic!
Anyway, as always, happy reading and if you liked this chapter, please make my day and vote or maybe even comment!
The last Saturday of july, one day before Levi left for his business trip to China, was spent at the Metropolitan museum of art. The party was organized by Isaac Taylor and his crew, who'd just announced he's running for the SA's election. This was by far Valentina's en Levi's most important public appearance as a couple.
All important people- lawyers, judges, cops- were going to be there. The previous parties they'd attented the past week were just for their cover- to strengthen it. But this party, it was their real outing- their debut- as a couple.
By now, Levi and Valentina had been to so many parties as a couple, they'd established a routine. Levi would arrive home ten minutes before the time they'd agreed to leave, Valentina stopped getting angry by that and instead just tells him what to wear. Levi would get ready and then they'd leave. As they arrive, they'd hold hands as they walk in the venue, feign loving looks every once a while, and at some point they'd dance, making sure they look as in love as they're supposed to be.
Levi hated it.
Sure, it was great not having to hide the love he truly holds for her in his eyes, and get to hold her hand, and even hold her tightly as they dance. But as much as it was real to him, it was all fake to her.
Their fight after the fundraiser at the orphanage was left unaddressed, and Valentina refused to give Levi a chance to try to work it out. Every morning when Levi woke up, Valentina was long gone. She was avoiding him, and she was doing it through work.
She'd come back home only for the scheduled parties and Levi was sure the only reason she even showed up was because she wasn't too keen on going to jail. At the parties she'd go along with the holding hands and the dancing and the loving looks. But the second they'd arrive back at the apartment she was gone. She'd go straight to her room.
There's been nothing real between them.
Even though it has been killing Levi, he knew that maybe it was for the best. After their last fight, he's been needing some time to think. He wasn't so sure anymore if he was even being realistic about their relationship. The way it was looking now, even if he did give it a try, he'd probably be the one chasing after her while all she does is run away.
But he knew that already. It's just that he now realizes just how bad it is, and just how fast she's trying to get away from him. She's not just playing hard to get, she's got an actual disorder, and he's not sure he can win from her own mind. Is she even capable of being in a relationship in the first place?
Levi was at a loss. He felt so empty when she acted so cold towards him. It's like he didn't exist to her, like she doesn't care about him at all. While Levi knew she did. She's shown it to him, so many times. It's just she's so unpredictable. Her moods shift so easily and so quickly and he never sees it coming. Levi doesn't know if being in a relationship with someone like that is even possible. They're more likely to end up being unhappy than happy.
''Time to dance.'' Valentina's whispers snapped Levi out of thoughts.
She held onto his hand tightly and led him to the dancefloor. In a moment like this, where she held his hand so tightly before she clasped her hands around his neck, bringing her body so deliciously close to his, he should have felt so full with love, so happy. But there was nothing but emptiness within him, because he knew, it was all fake.
