chapter 52

we talked for 45 minutes. it just felt good to talk to her again, despite what she did to me. we made plans to meet up that day. it was probably because everyone else in my life was busy, but i looked forward to meeting up with her. it's been a good two or three months since i walked out on her at Alejandro's. i had to forgive her if i was really going to change my life.

it was now 12 and i still haven't moved since i talked with Celia. my mother was awake now, though. she came into my room:

"good morning beautiful." she said as she opened the door and saw me sprawled out on the bed with messy hair.

i grunted and gave her a little half smile.

"plans for the day?" she continued walking further into the room.

i hesitated. i questioned whether to tell her about celia. i just nodded my head.

"which are?" she said sitting on my bed and running her hand through my tangled hair.

"meeting up with Celia." i mumbled.

she paused for a second. "what?" she questioned back. and i wasn't sure if she was asking me to repeat it because she truly didn't hear me or asking me to repeat because of how crazy that sounded.

i decided to keep it simple "meeting up with celia," i repeated. there was a long pause.

"okay." she simply said and kissed the top of my head and walked out of the room.

i'm surprised she didn't try to protest against it. or am i? i gave her another chance, why shouldn't i give celia one?

--

it was now 2.45 and i had just finished getting ready to meet up with celia. i had on my Pierce The Veil shirt with my dark blue skinny jeans with holes at the knees. i tied a black and white flannel around my waist and pulled on my black boots. i slipped on a bracelet that celia bought me when we were twelve, she bought herself one just like it, so we'd match.

i waited until 2.55 to start walking to the ice cream shop a half mile away where i was meeting celia at 3.30. my mom stopped me before i could make it out the door, though.

"be careful, shay." she gave me a concerned look and then pulled me into a hug.

"i know," i said hugging her back "thanks."

"oh and please be home by 7, family dinner with David!" she yelled before i closed the door. it took me a minute to process what she said. i opened the door back up

"what? we're meeting your boyfriend tonight?!" i looked scared and nervous. summer finally looked up from her book.

"yeah, what did you say mother?" summer chimed in. Mom just stood there moving her head from summer to me and then back to summer.

"i didn't think you would mind, you seemed excited when we talked about him all the other times." she said looking sorry.

"no, it's fine-" summer started

and i finished for her with "just unexpected, that's all." i saw my moms face relax dramatically.

"okay, good." she laughed and pretended to wipe sweat from her forehead. "don't forget, Shailey, 7 pm!!" she shouted as i closed the door once again.

--

it was 3.23 when i arrived at B's Ice Cream Shoppe; it was a small place, only four tables and a few stools at the counter where you order. i didn't see Celia, so i sat at the farthest table from the door and took out my phone.
three snapchats from Noah:
one was a picture of him on his way to the graduation, wearing the outfit i picked out for him with a caption saying: thanks for helping me again, miss you 😘
