AUTHOR'S POV

The punishment, or lack thereof in the eyes of many, of Jenna was rendered minutes ago and to say that it was a shock to hear is accurate...but for Larry and Laurent it's also hurtful because now the welfare of Christian is up in the air. Laurent is holding onto what Mrs. Perrin said in that just because she didn't receive prison time that doesn't mean she automatically regains custody. Even the punishment of probation means she's guilty so they must have continued faith that their family law attorney will pull out all stops to see that Christian remains in their custody. Of course if he has to be honest with himself he's just not so sure that will happen and it frightens him to no end. Life was already pretty damn amazing being in the career he loves and being married to Larry who he loves more each day...but when Christian came into their lives he's certain he can speak for Larry by saying that they don't remember what life was like before. That's how much Christian gives to them. Peace, joy and happiness. It's like they see the world all over again through his eyes and it's simply beautiful. He stands in that courtroom for a few moments when he realizes that he doesn't know where his visibly shaken love ran off to so he immediately takes off to find him. He nearly bolts through the double doors and looks all around only he doesn't see him anywhere so he runs straight for the exit. He's thinking that he's probably taking a walk to burn off some anger but there he is sitting on the courthouse steps looking straight ahead. Laurent blows out a silent sigh of relief then walks down the stairs to sit next to him. The instant he does his hand immediately goes to Larry's back and he gazes at that beautifully structured profile. Larry can't even turn his head to look back at him but Laurent continues to soothe his back before finally breaking the silence to speak with him in the most delicate voice...

Laurent: "Can I do something for you my love"?

Larry gulps and Laurent is sure it's because he's trying to keep himself from becoming emotional. Larry then turns to him and with sad eyes...

Larry: "Take me home to Christian", he replies softly.

Laurent looks into those eyes wishing there was something he could do to bring back that natural light that he always sees in them before replying in a whisper...

Laurent: *nods* "Sure bebe".

Larry softly nods in reply so they stand up and walk down the remaining stairs to their car. Home isn't far away and they're anxious to see Christian more so in this moment like never before...

*****

After a smooth drive home they walk inside and although they see Sandra they don't see Christian in her arms as they did yesterday so they look at his activity mat but they don't see him there. Sandra greets them warmly and she can tell exactly what they're thinking...

Sandra: *smile* "He's asleep in his crib".

Laurent: "Oh".

Sandra can't pretend she doesn't hear a sad tone in Laurent's response so her smile slowly fades. Her eyes are now darting between them and she realizes that court didn't go how they were all sure it would...

Sandra: "What did the judge decide"?

Laurent: "She got probation for five years instead of prison".

Sandra: "Oh no".

Laurent: *nods* "Yeah".

Sandra: "Probation for endangering a baby? What could possibly be his reason"?

Laurent: "He believe she regrets what she did".

Sandra: *sigh* "I'm so sorry".
