Gabe's POV
The front gates of New Richmond rose up and out walked the four of us. Clementine in front followed by Kate, Javi, and I. I had so much going through my mind, so many thoughts, so many memories I could recall with her. And this was it.
She turned around, looked at me, and smiled. That smile. That damned smile. I looked back at her and reflected her look despite the amount of heart break I was going through. She hugged me and whispered, "...bye Gabe" and I replied saying "bye Clem." As she let go from the hug, she stepped back and started heading in the direction of the McCarroll Ranch, but turned to give us one last goodbye wave.
It all happened so quickly.
Kate and Javi turned and walked back inside the gates to continue their daily routines as I took a seat on the nearby tire and watched her fade away from my sight. Looking at the ground, I cupped my hands to my face and just started thinking about everything thing that had happened in the past few months.
My head was soon filled with thoughts such as losing Mariana a few months back. I remember it hurting like hell, but for some reason losing Clementine felt different. I thought everything was fine when the New Frontier had fallen, like everything would go back to normal, but her loss brought me back to reality. My only choice was to move on and survive. That's all anyone cares about now besides family.
Finally I regained the strength to get up and walk back inside the gates, closing the gate behind me. When I was walking back to my room in the apartment complex, I looked around at my surroundings. Kids enjoying their childhood, the bright green trees, the vibrant color of the setting sun, and I started thinking about the outside world. How long was this going to last? When were the walkers going to breach? Everything here seemed so normal and peaceful that you could easily forget what's happening beyond these walls.
Lost in my thoughts, I arrived at the front of the complex and headed straight up the stairwell and into my room. Today was almost over and my next worry would be tomorrow.
It had been a long day today, yet not much time had passed since Javi and Kate saved New Richmond. About a week ago to be exact. Clem stayed in my room while I crashed on the couch for the week.
She wanted to leave. I had never seen her so eager, so ambitious to find AJ. He was the only reminder of family she had left.
I laid on the couch, tempted to take a quick nap to rejuvenate my energy from this long day when all of a sudden I heard someone shout "Gabe!" from the hallway.
There was a knock at the door.
