Gabe's POV

Once I finished packing, it was damn near        5 am. Good thing I knew that no one in New Richmond woke up until around 6:30 am to start their duties.

Even though most of the civilians were asleep Javi had set up people as guards during the night to patrol. I remember seeing some as Clem and I snuck out a few days ago to steal some medicine for AJ once she found him.

It was time. I tried to shut the door, as quietly as I could, and tried not to make any noise, but the door let out a subtle creaking noice. I guaranteed no one had heard it. As I walked slowly down the stairs, I remember that Weston, the guy at the Armory, had patrol of the apartment complex today. I knew a way to escape from the side and sneak stealthily down the alley way.

It was easy. I opened the side window on the bottom floor and jumped out and followed the same alley way Clem and I walked down a few days back.

I took a second to gaze upwards at a sight I hadn't noticed before. Hundreds and thousands of stars shining in the distance.

If only I could've shared this view with Clem

If only I could've shared this view with Clem. Just thinking about her make my heart tingle, in a good way.

It's was amazing how everything looked at night. There were no cars running or factories pumping pollution into the air. Everything felt fresh at the moment. The moon as bright as ever, overshadowing the stars behind it. Looking at it made me forget some of the tough shit I've seen.

I completely forgot the clock was still ticking. It was time to move on.

I reached the alleyway, pulled out Clem's gun, and had it ready at my side in case anything happened. I knew the way to the gates, but escaping in the dark and dodging patrols was something else. As I walked through the alleyway I realized I couldn't escape. I had no clue where I was going.

I stopped listening to my heart, for a second, and tried to reason. I needed to talk to Javi, I needed a map to the McCaroll Ranch, most importantly I needed supplies.

Eventually I had reached the center of New Richmond and passed the main Church.

They usually had meetings in that Church building, where we had pictures of those who had passed away, pinned on the bulletin board in the back.

I finally reached Javi's home where he also stayed. The center of New Richmond was where Javi stayed along with some others who were important contributors to the community. It had looked like Javi took my father's old home. I remember it from when Javi agreed to follow my dad's plan and stay at his home until we attacked.

I knocked once. No reply. The door was locked and there was no way Javi was already awake. It was 5:30 in the morning. I decided to go to his side window and knocked.

The window propped open.

"Gabe, what the hell are you doing here?" He whispered.
