Clem's POV

"It's some of Negan's men," Heath said "come on, you guys leave on the bike and I'll hide somewhere. Meet me at the yield sign up ahead, Go! Now!"

Gabe looked at me and nodded.

I turned around to see three men and Heath running out from under the bridge. He hid.

After a few minutes of driving we saw the yield sign on the side of the road. There was an abandoned gas station near it and the rest were trees.

"I assumed this gas station is the hiding spot," I said, getting off the bike, "we should probably stash the motorbike in the bushes or something."

"Maybe, but what if we need to make a quick escape when Heath comes?" Gabe said.

"Why should we even trust him? We barely know him." I replied.

"He knows where we live, he knows Jesus, and that means he knows Javi. We can trust him, and we'll need him against these Saviors. They didn't seem too good of people." he said.

"Yeah."

We decided to leave the bike near the doors of the gas station while we went in. It seemed to be ransacked already. There were wrappers on the floor. Doritos, Lays, and even Hershey's chocolate bars. I would kill for one right now.

"Hey! Clem," Gabe yelled.

I went over to him and gasped.

"Woah. I can't believe they didn't search behind here whoever it was." he said, pulling out a box of chocolates.

"There's 12 of these here! It's our lucky day." I said, stuffing them into my bag.

"I can't wait to bring these back to — wait, I had completely forgotten we were so far away from New Richmond."

"It's okay," I said, "we'll be back home with Javi and Weston and Nick and all of them, once we get AJ from Georgia. I still don't understand why Javi's original map led us north instead of south."

"Hm." He replied.

We slid down behind the counter where the chocolate bars were stashed and sat. His hand intertwined with my hand after a little bit of waiting.

I rested my head on his shoulder and said "Do you think we could ever have a normal life? Like after we get AJ we could actually start properly farming and maybe even start some manufacturing for bullets maybe. I don't know. I just really miss the feeling of being safe."

"I don't. I feel safe every time I'm with you."

He kissed me on the cheek and pressed his nose against mine. A tear fell down his cheek and he said "I really mean it. After everything we've been through. We deserve this."

He went back to sitting normally and we waited. After a few minutes, we had finally heard a noise.

Clem looked up and stealthily grabbed her knife.

"Don't worry it's me." Heath whispered with both his hands up. "I've met those Saviors before. My community and I were fighting them before..." he looked down and shed a tear, "before I got lost."

"That's terrible. How long has it been?" Gabe asked.

"It's been a few months at least. My partner Tara and I headed out for supplies and this time we went out really far, mainly because the Saviors had already claimed everything near us, even us. They'd been taking —"

"One third." I answered.

"Yeah exactly. He wants to gather all of the nearby communities to feed his. I know that was just an outpost, but I wonder why he was out this far." Heath said.

"Maybe he was doing the same thing as you, looking for supplies." Gabe said.

"Or communities." I said.

"I think you're right. Didn't you say they found your place? What was it again..." Heath asked.

"New Richmond." Gabe and I replied in unison.

"So what happened? With the Saviors I mean." I asked.

"I don't really know. I just stuck near the road, but far enough so that they wouldn't have found me. I bet they had to keep close to Negan. There's no way he's out this far with too many men. He's definitely weak right now... Where do we go from here?" Heath asked.

"Well... me and Clem here are headed to Macon in Georgia. Not back to New Richmond." Gabe replied.

"Why? Don't you wanna head back home?" he responded.

"Don't you? You said you've been out here for months." Gabe said.

"Yeah I know. Ever since Tara and I were separated, I have been trying to find my way home. Some of the signs aren't even legible and some have probably been removed. I've been looking for a town named Alexandria. Does that name sound familiar?"

"No. But here, here's a spare map that we have. It looks like this one does lead to a town near Alexandria." Gabe said.

"Wait, that's the map Javi gave me about AJ's location. Before we got the real map. We still don't know what that endpoint is." I said.

"I doubt it matters. But look Heath, we are riggght here." Gabe said, pointing to the gas station. "Good luck."

"You're leaving already?" he asked.

"Yeah, we have a child to rescue. If you make it, say hi to Jesus or Javi for us. And tell him we're fine and that we'll be home soon." Gabe yelled.

Heath nodded and went inside the gas station. And just like that we left.

"Do you think those chocolates were his?" I asked.

We both laughed.
