"Wha... What do you mean goddammit?"
I was anxious to hear what they had to say. By their reaction it seemed like they knew who Clementine was, but their reaction didn't seem like a good reaction.
Brian replied.
"We uh... we've met Clementine. But before we talk anymore I think you should come with us."
This was good news in my mind, but not too good of news to them. They knew about Clem. Now, if only I knew where she was then I could find her.
Then I wonder why they wanted me to head back to them. Was this a trap?
"Why should I come with you guys? How do I know unless you have proof that you met Clem?"
Nick turned around and started to walk away.
"Brian, this is retarded. Let's just head back to the camp. Let him go."
Nick left through the woods, leaving Brian behind to talk with me.
"Alright. Well if you want proof you can come and kill time with us. We're just trying to survive like you guys are. The name's Brian."
I didn't realized that I haven't even introduced myself to them left. They didn't seem like monsters and or people who would use you, they just wanted to survive.
"I'm... uh I'm Gabe."
I stuttered. I've been over thinking everything so far. I just needed to loosen up and be myself. Trust is hard to earn in this day and age.
"Alrighty Gabe, so you can leave, without knowing where Clem is, and not come back, or you can come chill with us and we'll talk it out."
He offered me two choices to choose from. I didn't know what to do. I tried to weigh the outcomes in my head.
What would happen if I decided to just leave? I wouldn't know where Clem was or if she was nearby. But at the same time I'd be far away from these guys.
But if I stayed with them, I could find out where Clem was. And that meant everything to me.
I decided to take the safe route and replied to him,
"I'll come. Can you give me a hand with my stuff?"
Everything was happening so quickly. It's been about 17 hours since Clem left. I've been on my own for almost 8 hours and I'm already making tough decisions. In my mind, I made the right decision by asking for help. As I walked back to my bike, I check my pocket watch again. It was noon.
He walked over and helped me tip over the motorbike. I took the key, put it in the ignition hole, and turned it.
Brian walked over to my gun and picked it up off the ground.
"You don't wanna forget this. This is what saves you from now on."
He walked over to my bike and handed me the gun.
"I'll get on and we pick up my pistol, then I can show you the little path we made in the woods. Your bike should easily be able cross it."
I did as he said. We drove by and picked up his gun. As he was about to get back on the bike, he started to speak,
"Let me take the front. I know the way back to our camp. Don't worry I won't steal it, now get your ass on here."
"Okay, I'm trusting you."
I got on the bike and we went off the road into the forest. There was a dirt path that cut right through the forest from the road. I stared around in awe. The trees were as green as ever, everything looked so normal out here.
As we were about to reach the end of the dirt road, I took a look up to see the sun shine again. Then I looked past over Brian's shoulder to see where he took me.
I couldn't believe my eyes.
