Gabe's POV:
I turned around and saw Weston carrying crates out of the armory. His jaw dropped at the sight of his long lost friends and his whole body seemed to have rejuvenated. He dropped the crates immediately and headed our direction.
He passed us and went to hug both Nick and Brian,
"Holy shit." he said, starting to tear up.
"It's been so long, I thought I'd never see any of us in the same place again." Brian said.
"Now if only Michael, Evan, and Bryce were here, I'd be like the old times." Nick said.
"Gotta be thankful half of the squad is reunited. And it's all thanks to those two." Brian said, pointing in our direction.
"Hey, Clementine right?" Weston asked.
"Yeah." Clem replied.
He examined us both and spoke, "Thank you. Honestly. Thanks."
"We're happy for you guys." I said.
"Yeah we'll leave you two alone. We've got other shit to do, but you three should catch up" Clem said.
"Will do." Nick replied.
I looked at Clem and nodded. We headed back to the fountain where we usually sat and sat down.
"Gabe, we have to leave tomorrow morning. I have to find AJ. I have to know he's okay. I have to. For everyone I've lost." Clem said.
"Okay, but I'm going with you, no exceptions. We can do this together. Me and you."
She looked at me with a look I had never seen before. A tear slipped down her cheek as she started to speak, "No, no Gabe. I can't let you go with me."
"Why? We can do this. Together."
She looked down and her cap shadowed her face. She was trying to hide the tears.
I tilted her chin upward and saw the look in her eyes. She had been through so much and lost so many people. Everyone she loved, gone.
Both of her eyes were tearing up looking at me.
I closed my eyes and leaned in.
She reacted, and we locked lips.
Her lips were soft. I felt like nothing in the world existed. I felt butterflies in my stomach. I felt alive.
Clementine was my first love, is my first love.
And now we were here, sitting at the fountain, having our first real kiss.
It was perfect. She was perfect.
The sky was a light pinkish orangey color, and the moon was beginning to peak out.
I felt her tears on my face. Her tears ran down my cheek as well, and I could feel her pain. No one should have to go through this. Especially alone.
She pulled back, and looked at me with the most sincere look and said "Gabe. I can't lose you too."
I smiled at her.
"Clem, we've lived for so long. Too long, to be scared. We've seen it all. You've seen it all."
She took my beanie off my head and said, "It's just the same thing that's repeated over and over."
She paused, wiping the tears from her eyes.
"Lee. Kenny. Christa. Everyone I knew. They loved me. They cared for me. And I couldn't do anything to save them."
"That isn't your fault Clem. We can't all live like tomorrow's gonna be okay. We have to live like tomorrow's our last," I said.
"Don't say that Gabe. Tomorrow won't be our last." she replied.
"I know. It won't be. As long as I've got you, I'll be okay."
She hugged me, sniffling.
"Tomorrow. Me and you. We'll head out." I said.
"Alright Gabe," she said, smiling at me.
"Let's get something to eat, how about that?" I suggested.
"That'd be nice." she said.
We both got up and started walking back to the room I'd been staying in. As we walked, I made another move, and interlocked her hand with mine.
She looked at me, and smiled.
I mirrored her smile back at her.
Hand in hand, we walked back to the building, admiring the surround areas.
We walked in the building and took a few flight of stairs upwards into my room. I saw the food that Javi had left behind for us on the table. Two raw eggs and a can of spam meat.
"Hey Clem, I can cook up something for us to eat."
"Okay, I'll try to see if we can hook up the stove to anything to cook for a little bit."
I took out the spam meat and cut it into little chunks. Then I used cracked the eggs into a little bowl and stirred them up.
"I got the stove working." Clem said.
"Just in time, thanks Clem," I said smiling at her.
She blushed and returned the smile.
As I looked at her, I knew instantly, that I was one lucky guy.
