Gabe's POV
"Yo, you guys awake?" Brian said as he started to unzip the tent door.
I felt extremely tired. I didn't respond or even try to get up. I woke up to see that Clem's forehead was still rested on mine. She wasn't awake yet and she looked like she needed a break for once.
He unzipped the tent door and stuck his head in, "Hey, you two look snuggled." he said with a grin.
My face went bright red, "Haha yeah. She was uh super tired and we had no blankets or anything."
"Alright. I woke Nick up n' we both got 5 hours of sleep so we should be good to go. You and Clem on the other hand got 10 hours," he replied, "oh and also, we're planning on heading out in 15, so if you two could get ready then we'll leave."
And just like that he left. Clem still laid there, using my arm as a substitute for a pillow. I looked down to see she still had my jacket on as a blanket. Even though I didn't want to wake her up, I had too. We had to get back on the move.
I took my free arm and laid my hand on her shoulder, "Clem? Clementine, we gotta get going,"
Her eyes fluttered, "Ah," she said as she yawned.
She looked at me and blushed to see that she was still on my arm. She sat upwards and rubbed her eyes to try to wake herself up.
"Thanks," she said.
"Yeah, it looked like you needed a good rest." I said.
She looked down at my jacket and picked it up, "What was this for?" she asked.
"I thought you'd get cold so I, uh, um, used it as a blanket for you." I answered.
"Thanks again." she said.
"Brian said we're leaving in about 15 minutes so I say we take down the tent's and pack again."
Clem got up and unzipped the tent door and stepped out. While she was outside, I grabbed the candle and my lighter and stuffed it back into the bag. I took both of our bags and stepped out.
The sun had just risen and I could see all of the vibrant colors in the sky. These were the views I lived for since the apocalypse started. I took my hat and slipped into my shoes and headed over to Nick.
"How'd you sleep?" she asked.
"I..."
"He slept pretty well in my opinion," Brian said, interrupting.
I could feel my face starting to go red again.
"Ok, anyways let's get this shit done and head out. Gabe you stay here and take this makeshift tent down with Brian. I know how to do the other tent, and also Clem's packing for us so we'll be out soon." Nick said.
I did as he said. Brian and I pulled the sticks out of the ground and untied ropes on the blankets. It actually was pretty well made for something that was last second. While we took down this tent, I asked, "So, did anything happen last night when you were on watch?"
"Not really, unless you count two walkers as something that happened. I just took out hatchet and dealt with them." Brian replied.
We took all the supplies and filled up one of the duffel bags. The other duffel bag was filled with the tent that Clem and I stayed in.
When we finished, I sat on a tree stump and heard my stomach growl.
"Hey, can we get something to eat?" I asked Nick and Brian.
"Yeah that bag has like 10 cans in it. Take one and you can use that campfire to make it warm. You'd need to use your lighter though." Nick said.
I took 2 cans and brought them over to the campfire and re lit the flame. As Clem finished, she walked over to me and sat on a log opposite from my trunk.
"Finally done with those bags." she said.
When the cans were done heating, I took my knife and opened both, handing one to Clem.
"Here Clem." I said, giving her the chicken soup while I had some beans.
While we ate, I thought it was a good time to finally tell Clem what I've been needing to tell her for a while now,
"Hey Clem, I've got this letter from Dr. Lingard and..."
"I don't wanna see anything from him. He..." she said, interrupting me.
"No Clem, you need to see this." I said, grabbing my backpack.
I took the out the letter and handed it to her,
"Trust me."
She started to read the letter in her head.
"Gabe..."
