(Nick in the cover photo above^^^)
--------------------------------------------Gabe's POV (it's been his POV since Chapter 1)
I panicked and froze. I decided to wait to see what would happen, 'cause I didn't think jumping out at them would've been the best idea.
"Come out," Nick whispered to Brian.
"Dude get down there's someone out there."
"This prank wasn't even funny. Look I'm on the road."
He didn't seem worried at all. He thought it was a prank while Brian clearly heard me. I knew yelling Clem's name would've resulted in this, but it was the only chance I had at finding her.
"Yo Brian, dude look over there."
He pointed at the motor bike I left on the side of the road. They were on the other side of the road and had to cross to check it out.
"Nick get down, I'm just sayin' I wouldn't advise doing dumbass shit right now."
"Bro it's a fuckin' motorcycle. One seater tho, looks usable. Cover me, I'll check it out."
"Alright Nick, I've gotchu."
Brian got on the road and joined Nick. They both had their guns ready to fire. Brian stayed back to cover while Nick continued to advance. Before Nick could walk any further and take the bike, I yelled,
"Don't move... or... or I'll shoot."
Nick jumped. He was surprised and had his gun up ready to fire, but no one shot. He spoke.
"Yo fuckin' chill bro."
Brian who was about 30 feet back began to talk.
"We... we don't want trouble. You take your bike and no one's gotta get hurt."
"We are not letting this happen again. Remember what happened last time we let those people live and leave? Huh? Yeah that's right we lost a weeks worth of food to those kids."
Nick was clearly telling his friend to not let me go.
I had to defend my ground. It was a stare down. All of us had our guns up, none were lowered. I tried to reason with them.
"There's one of me, and two of you, I think you should put down your weapons and not take another step."
Nick was the only one I could talk to and try to reason with. His buddy was too far back to hear this.
"We ain't putting down anything for shit,"
How could I reason with him? He was determined to get something out of this stare down. I gave them an offer to consider.
"Well, I could let you leave and go back to where you were and you could let me pick up my bike and continue down this road. Or we could stay here all day until the walkers come and then we're all done for."
Nick stayed silent. Brian still on the other side of the road standing, ready to fire.
"Yo Nick! What's he sayin'?"
"He wants us to leave, so he can leave!"
They semi shouted to each other. I had no choice, but to lower my weapon to seem less intimidating.
"I'm lowering my weapon."
I lowered it to my waist. Brian lowered his weapon too, and dropped it on the ground. He yelled to me.
"Drop your weapon kid, Nick! If he drops, you do!"
He looked back at Brian.
"Are you fucking serious? Who knows if he's alone?"
I listened to Brian. I dropped my gun since this was clearly getting nowhere and burning daylight. After I dropped my pistol, Nick finally lowered and dropped his weapons.
It was time I tried to reason with them. I walked towards Nick and was face to face with him.
"Okay, we can talk this out."
Brian walked over, leaving his gun on the ground.
"Nick he's a kid. He could join us."
Brian looked over to me.
"You're completely alone right?"
I decided to be truthful and maybe he'll understand.
"I'm... I'm alone. Actually I'm looking for someone."
Nick and Brian looked at each other.
Brian spoke.
"Exactly who were you looking for?"
I froze. I hadn't even thought of the fact they could've had other people, or even a group. I had no choice, but to be truthful now. I had surrendered everything. I wish Clem was here. She probably would've known what to do.
"Her... her name was Clementine."
They were silent. They looked at each other again, then back at me.
"God...dammit..." they said in unison.
