I turned around to get one last glimpse of Brian and Nick on the road. It seemed abrupt to just leave them like that, but since I mentioned their friend, they seemed to be eager to see him.
They were the only ones that I could call my friends, even only after a few days together. I hadn't really had anyone else around my age besides Clem and Mariana...
Mariana... I really do miss my little sister. Just the thought of her put me in a sad mood. Everything had happened so quickly...
Then,
Clem swerved to dodge the walkers and managed to stay on the road.
"Woah," I said.
We had nearly hit a hoard of walkers, but she managed to turn quickly and dodged it.
"Sorry, I wasn't thinking straight," Clem said.
"None of us have." I said.
We got settled again and headed to New Richmond. It wasn't too far away, looking on the map it was about an hour or two away. The ride was mildly quiet, and no one spoke for a while.
"Hey, uh Clem?" I said, breaking the silence.
"Yeah Gabe, what's up?" Clem replied.
"I... I don't know. I just felt like talking."
I didn't know what to say. My heart felt low on energy even though it had only been about 4 hours since we woke up. I was completely out of it. Nothing seemed right anymore.
"Yeah, talking is good. It gets the tough shit out of the way." Clem said.
"You know, I'm really missing Mariana right now. She was so young... so,"
"She didn't deserve it. She was innocent. Clem said.
"Right. If only I could've done something..."
"Gabe, you can't blame yourself. You couldn't do anything to stop it."
She was right. Javi told me once that it was good to be sad. He said it made your happy moments even happier.
-------------------------
Around 2 hours later
-------------------------We were on the rickety bridge that I remember walking on a few days ago. The walkers were still there, and I had assumed they were Clem's bullets.
"I remember walking down this. I shot a few walkers, they're still there." she said.
"Yeah, I saw you left."
Finally we had arrived in New Richmond. I hopped off the motorbike and was in glad to see that I was kinda home again.
I looked around the gate to see that no one was around.
"Clem?" I asked.
"Yeah?"
"There's no one here, but I've got a place where we can probably get in through." I said.
I got in the front and drive the bike for the first time today. Clem sat behind me, wrapping her arms around me again.
Inside, my stomach filled with butterflies and I slightly blushed.
"I'm trusting you," she said.
I looked downwards to see that the motorbike had only a quarter of gas left. The siphon pump was still attached to the bike despite everything that this bike had been through in these past few days.
"We'll need to get some gas for the bike later." I said.
We arrived at the the hole in the wall where I left through. It was strange though, everything looked different from when I left.
We continued to the crash scene to find out that it was gone.
"That's strange. The crash was here when I left."
"Maybe they cleaned it up. Come on let's get some help from Javi and find AJ." she suggested.
Alright how about we both go find Javi and then we'll fill up this bike.
We did just that.
Retracing the steps gave me memories from when New Richmond was still a mess. I remembered everything... everyone we lost on the way. I didn't really know them, but Javi seemed to be pretty fond of their presence. Tripp... Ava... they're gone.
I checked my pocket watch to reveal that it was almost noon already. We finally got to the streets and headed straight to Javi. The people here still recognized Clem and I as the some of the people who saved New Richmond from the New Frontier. We were greeted with kind words.
"Hey, you're Gabe right?" said a voice behind me.
I turned around to see a girl around our age. She had bright blonde hair, the complete opposite of Clem's dark hair, and had a tanned tone to her. She seemed to be wearing what looked like a nurses outfit.
"Yeah, that's me, who are you?" I asked politely.
"I'm Emma. I've been helping Kate and Eleanor some things around the hospital... and I was just wondering,"
"Wondering what? Look we gotta move so if you can cut to the point that'd be great." Clem said, interrupting her.
"Okay, okay, look Kate's been talking about you and how you mysteriously went missing a few days ago. And I... I've heard a lot of good things about you and how you saved your dad and all and..." Emma replied.
"Okay, and this is important, why?" Clem asked.
"Look, Kate's been looking for you and your friend here, and plus I'm just introducing myself. No need to be rude. I just wanted to maybe be friends or something." she said.
Clem didn't reply.
"Look, that's cool and all, but we have to go now. We'll see you around Emma," I said.
She waved at us while I grabbed Clem's hand to dragged her away from that mess.
"What's up?" I asked.
"Nothing. We're trying to find AJ, and people can't keep interrupting us like this. We'll never get to the main goal." she replied.
"Alright, but when we get him and come back, it'd be nice to have another friend or two right?" I insisted.
"Yeah, but Gabe look, AJ's all I care about right now so if you can..."
She was interrupted as we looked down the street to see a familiar figure in the distance.
"Javi!" I yelled, waving my hand and motioning him towards me.
We walked over to him and met halfway around the central fountain in the middle.
"Hey buddy," he said, hugging me. "We've missed you. I know I didn't stop you, but it was because I believed in you Gabe. And it seemed like you did it."
"Yeah. We've been through a lot Javi." I said.
I was at a lost for words. I was only gone for a few days, but seeing Javi again gave me hope.
"Hey Clem," he said, hugging her. "Remember Clem? You have my blessing." he said with a small laugh.
"I'm going to stab you with those scissors," Clem said jokingly.
"What blessings? What's going on?" I asked.
"Nothing, Clem and I had a talk before she left and I thought it was quite funny bringing it up again. How are you two holding up?" he asked.
"We're fine. Look, we need some help regarding AJ and..." Clem started
"Well, well if it isn't Clementine." said a voice from behind.
