Castiel awoke to his alarm at 8 that morning. Merrily we fall out of line out of line I'd fall anywhere with you I'm by your side swinging in the rain. Castiel remembered how Dean had sang that more beautifully than he had ever heard. Castiel got out of bed and went to the bathroom. Peeing is weird. He went into the kitchen and made toast since he didn't have much and he realized he would have to eat since he's human now. He would need to go shopping at some point that night. Castiel went and brushed his teeth until the toaster went off. He ate his breakfast and grabbed a bottle of water and went out the door to his first class of Monday. Geometry.
Dean awoke at 8:50 forgetting he hadn't set an alarm the previous night. He threw on an old AC/DC shirt and some jeans, grabbed his leather jacket and ran out to his car. He hopped in his impala and headed towards his college. His first class was Geometry. Luckily he kept all his books and school supplies in his car so he never forgot them. He was pretty sure his geometry book was in his backpack. But it wasn't like you used your books on the first day. Normally the teachers would just tell you about the course and explain their rules then babble on about their life's for the rest of the lecture. Dean didn't like school but he did good so he could eventually send his little brother to college. Dean made a lot of money. But he lived in a 500$ a month apartment and spent as little money as possible on necessities. Stanford would be expensive but Sam deserved the best. Dean had only 2 more years before Sammy entered college. Dean hoped he could afford to give Sammy a full ride. Sammy didn't need to worry about that yet. Dean payed for Sams apartment. It was the one right next to his. 537. Sammy was barely ever home. He spent a lot of time at the library, studying. Just trying his absolute best. Dean loved Sam so much. He'd die for the kid ten times over.
Castiel slowly walked to his community college. It wasn't anything special. Just a random college in south California. No one he could ask would be able to name the city let alone the name of the college. He liked it that way. He was almost to his college when he saw deans impala zip by then slam on its brakes. The impala then began moving again at the same speed it was before. Castiel figured Dean didn't want to deal with him. That or Dean was in a huge hurry. It was 8:56 after all. Shit. Dean is probably in geometry with me. Castiel figured in his head. Castiel entered his classroom and took a seat with his backpack in tow.
Dean walked in 1 minute late, saw Cas, and immediately took a seat next to him. Dean saw Castiel roll his eyes and he figured Castiel held grudges for a long time. He hoped he would give it up soon. Dean wanted Cas in the most pure and impure ways. Dean wanted to know Cas inside and out. Dean loved Cas, and all Cas did was look annoyed that he sat next to him. Dean started quietly humming to himself just to see if Cas would notice. Merrily we fall out of line out of line, I'd fall anywhere with you I'm by your side.
Castiel heard Dean humming and he felt his face light up. He tried his best to hide it but by deans face, he did a piss poor job of it. Castiel didn't mean to but he started humming with Dean. Swinging in the rain humming melodies we're not going anywhere until we freeze.
"Hey songbirds!" the professor half shouted, obviously aimed at Dean and Cas. "Either listen to the lesson or get a room!"
"Sorry sir we will listen, my apologies." Castiel replied in a hushed tone.
Dean glanced at the clock. 9:58. Class ended at 10:30. Dean couldn't wait till then. His next class wasn't until later. After lunch anyways. 1:00 pm was the time his car studies class started. He didn't know the actual technical name for the class but he studied cars in that class so therefore it is car studies. Dean assumed logically that Castiel would not be in that class considering he was in college for communications, not mechanics. Dean wondered when Castiels next class was. If it was late like his, he could take Castiel to lunch. Maybe Denny's or IHOP. Dean loved breakfast food more than he loved himself.
Castiel was very bored. Geometry was a required class and he wasn't good in math, at all. His best subject was English and his worst was math. That's why he was studying communications and not accounting. Castiel started doodling in his notebook. He glanced at the clock, 10:08. Damn. Still 22 minutes left of this hell. Castiel was hit in the head with a paper ball. It fell onto his desk. Castiel opened it trying to not gain the professors attention. Castiel read the note.
Cas,
Would you like to go to lunch with me? My next class is at 1pm so um bad time but maybe we could have some fun.
-Dean
Castiel scribbled something down. And handed it back to Dean.
Dean,
Your handwriting is shit and that's too soon. You hurt me. That is forgiven but you need to regain what you have lost. My trust. But my next class is at 12:30 so I would love to go to lunch with you.
-Cas
Dean picked up the ball Cas had thrown back on his desk. He read it and almost laughed at the first line. His handwriting really was shit. He knew that. He wrote too fast because he thought too fast. And he thought too fast because of his ADHD. Castiel didn't know about that quite yet but Dean didn't know how to tell Cas that he was a bit psychotic. I mean anxiety, depression, PTSD, ADHD, ODD, he'll basically all the acronyms that meant you're fucked up.
Ding ding ding.
That class was over. Thank God. Castiel was so glad he didn't have to suffer in that hell for one more second. Dean winked at him and handed him a key to his car.
"I'll be out in a minute." Dean whispered in Castiels ear.
Dean then walked away. He didn't know what he would do during that time but he wanted to let Cas know he trusted him.
Castiel had never been trusted with any car but his own. He walked out to Deans impala and unlocked the passenger door. He stepped in noting Deans initials along with someone else's. This persons initials were S.W. Perhaps Dean had a wife at one point. Or a girlfriend that happened to also have a last name starting in W.
Dean got in his impala. He noticed Cas looked nervous and a bit sad.
"Hey buddy what's wrong?" Dean asked.
"Is S.W. your wife?" Castiel whispered.
"No? My brothers name is Sam. Those are his initials."
"Oh."
Most of the car ride was silent apart from Deans 80's rock playing through the speakers. Dean knew exactly where he was going. Dean loved Dennys and he used to go there a lot with his dad on his hunting trips. Dean knew what his father hunted at some point but now he couldn't remember for the life of him. Cas must have wiped it when he wiped his leg clean of the blood filled scratch. Dean started coughing. A lot.
"Dean are you okay?" Castiel asked worriedly.
"Yeah," Dean coughed out. "I'm fine."
Dean coughed blood into his hand. Oh shit. Not this again.
Castiel had called 911. He rode along in the ambulance. Dean had fainted from coughing so much. He was light headed and he couldn't have stayed awake longer than he did. Thank anyone but god Dean was just parking when he passed out. Castiel had called his professor for his 12:30 class and told her that he wouldn't be in due to a friend in the hospital. Castiel wished he had his powers to heal whatever Dean had. He prayed to his dad but his dad never answered him anymore.
"Castiel, right?" One of the nurses asked.
"Yes." Came a reply from a teary eyed Castiel.
"And your relation to the comatosed is?"
"Comatose?"
"Yes he is in a coma. Now your relation to him please?"
"I'm his boyfriend."
The nurse gave him a strange look.
"Okay well mister uh whats your last name?"
"Winchester."
"You and him have the same last name? Coincidence or?"
"Coincidence. We aren't married yet."
Castiel didn't mean to say yet. But he did want to marry Dean. Some day.
"Well we are going to do a few tests on Dean here. We think he may have an extreme cough or at the worst, lung cancer."
"Cancer?" Castiel whimpered out.
"Yes but if it's in early stages it can be treated and-"
"WHERE IS HE?!" Sam ran into the hospital at top speed.
"Calm down Sam he's in an X-ray and test room or something. He's getting tested for a lot of things." Castiel tried to calm down the livid brother.
"Dean will be fine. He's always fine. He's always fine. Always fine. It'll all be fine."
Castiel heard Sam repeat over and over to himself. Dean would be fine. Just not right now. Castiel heard the door next to where he was sitting swing open and Dean was in the bed that came through the door. He was still out but maybe they had a diagnosis. The nurse gestured for Cas and Sam to follow. They did as told.
"Dean has stage 1 lung cancer." The nurse calmly said. "I can get you some pamphlets or some water or soda or anything to help you let this sink in."
"Cancer. It's cancer. He never smoked. How can he have cancer..." Sam trailed off.
"We're afraid so. But in this stage it is treatable and we will treat it as best as we can."
"You better."
Sam was so angry. Angry at Dean for getting cancer. Angry at Cas for not telling him about Deans coughing fits. Angry at himself for even introducing Dean to Cas. There was no troubles before Cas. Sam began to hate Cas in his mind. Sam was staying there until Dean got better. He didn't care how much school he missed. He didn't want to let his brother or Cas be alone right now. Hate or not, Cas loved Dean. Sam could see it.
Castiel just wanted to cure Dean. He was going to cure Dean. He would pray. He would call upon Gabriel or Lucifer or Raphael or any other angel that would help him. He was desperate. He loved Dean so much. And he never got to tell him. You better wake up and let me tell you that I love you, you sleepy bastard.
San heard Cas start singing. Merrily we fall out of line out of line. Sam heard Cas choke on his tears. I'd fall anywhere with you I'm by your side. Swinging in the rain humming melodies we're not going anywhere until we freeze. Dean I'm not afraid anymore I'm not afraid. Forever is a long time but I wouldn't mind spending it by your side. Carefully we're placed for our destiny, you came and you took my heart and set me free. Every word you write or speak is so warm to me so warm to me I'm torn I'm torn to be right where you are. And I'm right here Dean please wake up. I'm not afraid anymore I'm not afraid forever is a long time Dean Winchester. And I'll spend your forever by your side. Sam heard Cas finish. Wow. Cas really loved his brother. Sam could see why. Well kinda.
Castiel glanced to the clock on the wall. 10:42. Wow he had been staring at Dean for a long time. Dean was asleep. So maybe Cas should sleep too. Cas was exhausted. He shut off his alarm before he slept so it wouldn't wake Sam the next day. Castiel arranged a few chairs that he had requested and set them up next to Deans lowered hospital bed. He grabbed Deans cold clammy hand and drifted to sleep.
Sam glanced at Cas and Dean. They were kinda cute together. A lot cute actually. Sam was glad he did that. It was only three days ago but it felt like forever. He knew it did to Cas and Dean too. They were deep in love. Sam could tell. The look in Castiels eyes was the look he had in his when he was with Jessica. Sam decided to get to sleep in his recliner that they had arranged in the back of the room. Sam looked at the clock. 11:47. Time for him to go to bed.(A/N)
And there's that sorta twist and shout feel. Sorry bout that. Btw if you don't know the song I have them both sing throughout the story it's I wouldn't mind by he is we. I also think I'll be using kiss it all better by he is we later in the book.
