Dean gasped for air as he awoke the next day. He looked around. White walls. Castiel and his brother were at his side asleep. Where was he. It looked like a dentists office. Or a doctors office. Or a... He was in a hospital. Why was he in a hospital? He couldn't remember anything past listening to music in the car with Cas and arriving at Denny's. After that it was a blur.
Castiel awoke soon after Dean. Castiel looked at Dean and fell off his chairs onto the floor. He heard Dean slightly chuckle. Cas saw Sam wake up from hearing Deans chuckle.
Sam ran over to Deans side. Sam yelled for a nurse or someone to do something now that Dean had woke up. The nurse took Cas and Sam out of the room again.
"Which one of you wants to tell him his condition? It would be better if it came from one of you as opposed to me or the doctor." She said.
"I'll tell him. He knows me better." Sam said.
"I agree. He'll do it." Castiel agreed, a bit sad he wouldn't be the one to tell Dean.
"Dean." Sam whispered with tears in his eyes.
"Yeah Sammy?" Dean giggly said back.
"Dean you need to be serious for a second okay?"
"Okay."
"Dean... You have lung cancer."
"Sammy I think I heard you wrong could you come a little closer? Could've sworn you said I have lung cancer."
"Dean you do have lung cancer." Castiel chimed in, grabbing Deans hand gently.
"Oh. I understand." Dean quietly responded. His smile fading from his lips.
Sam was a bit hurt that Dean wouldn't accept it coming from his mouth but accepted it in a heartbeat when Cas said it. Sam knew Cas knew Dean in ways he didn't. He wasn't jealous. He wasn't even angry anymore. He was numb. His brother. His big brother, the one he had always looked up to, always cared about and loved, had cancer. Why couldn't it just be a cold? It had to just be a cold. Dean doesn't have lung cancer he has the flu. Sam repeated that over and over. With every repeat, he knew even more that he was lying to himself.
Dean was confused. Everything was alright not even a day ago. He met Cas only 5 days ago. He loved Cas. They have so much ahead of them. Dean wanted to propose and marry Cas. Dean wanted kids with Cas. Hell even if he just had a pet with Cas. He needed to get better. That's all he needed to focus on right now. He needed to get better for Cas and for Sammy and for his mother and father that were no longer alive and everyone else he ever met or influenced.
Castiel looked around memorizing the hospital room. Castiel got up in Deans hospital bed and cuddled against his torso, being very careful not to hit Deans IV and all the other cords and things they had put in him.
"Dean?" Cas whispered.
"Yeah Cassy baby?" Dean whispered back. He heard Sam groan and saw Cas blush.
"I wanted to know something."
"Well spit it out Cas I don't have forever. Especially not now."
"Don't say that. Please..." Castiel started crying like he had been for the past few hours. "Please don't say that. You will get better. I wanted to know if you ever wanted to marry me..."
"Cassy I'd love to marry you one day. Not now but one day."
"Me t-too." Castiel stuttered.
Castiel was blubbering like a baby but he didn't care. His one love was being taken from him slowly. He knew Dean wasn't doing well. He wanted to-
"Hello!" Castiels thoughts were interrupted by an overly cheerful female voice. "I'm Sarah Patterson. I'm going to be this little mans nurse!"
"He's my little man. And don't call him that. His names Dean." Castiel grumbled, a bit annoyed at the nurse and her excitement that came from nowhere.
"Okay then well we need to do a few things on Dean that it would not be um comfortable for you to see. So if you would like to step out, there's someone I'd like you to talk to."
Sarah led Cas and Sam out of the hospital room. Sam wanted to know who they were going to talk to. He didn't feel like talking. Not at all.
"Okay so Sam, Cas, this is our grief counselor Haley Pederat. Haley this is Sam and Cas." Sarah gleefully said.
"I don't need a grief counselor. Dean will get treated and he will be fine." Castiel angrily said.
"Well we don't know that for sure-" Sarah was interrupted by a whisper in her ear from an older man.
"Dean has let us know he wanted to let both of you know something. This is his choice and he said if you don't respect it you may quote 'burn in fuckin hell for all I care'." Sarah said shakily. She didn't like using swear words.
"Okay so what did he want?" Sam begged to know.
"He wants to go home."
"What?"
"He doesn't want chemo. He doesn't want radiation therapy. He just said he wants to live out the rest of his life naturally with you and Cas."
"No I won't allow him to do that you can help and fix him."
"We may be able to help him live a bit longer than if he were to leave but with his X-rays, he would get better life quality at home for his last few weeks."
"So even you wouldn't be able to fix him completely?"
"I'm sorry but no."
"Okay. Then let him go home with us. We'll take care of him."
"Well they should be all done letting him go to the bathroom and all that so you may go back now."
Sam and Cas walked back to Deans room.
"I'm sorry about talking for you Cas. I should have let you weigh in." Sam didn't get a reply. He looked over and Castiel was sobbing.
"It-its okay S-Sammy I w-would have s-said the same thing." Castiel managed to say between tears.
"I'm gonna come live with Dean and I'm assuming you are too."
"No."
"No? The dudes dying."
"No as in I'm not gonna move in with Dean. That apartment stinks. He can cancel his rent. You can too. You're both coming to live with me. Not even after Dean passes will you leave my house. You need a stable home. I'll be that stable home. You wanna be my roommate?"
"Castiel that offer is too nice there's no way I can just come live with you and eat your food and use your electricity. I'll at least pay rent or something."
"Sam please. It's a gift. You're supposed to keep those."
"Fine. I'll call my landlord tomorrow."
Castiel arrived at the room Dean was in. He entered cautiously, making eye contact with Dean for a brief second before Cas saw Dean rip out all the cords attached to the beeping machines.
"Dean what the hell?" Castiel said suprised.
"Well I'm assuming they told you my wish for my dying days." Dean chuckled.
"Yes. And we altered them a little bit."
"How did you alter them?"
"You're going to come live with me, Dean. So is Sam. He will call your landlord tomorrow and cancel both of your leases."
"Awww Cassy you don't have to do that." Dean said while attempting to stand up. He got it eventually.
"Be careful Dean." Cas said as he walked with Dean holding on his shoulder and Sams for support. They made it out to his impala. The sun was setting. It was beautiful.
"Hello baby." Dean said heading to the drivers door.
"Uhhhh no." Sam said, stealing the keys from Deans hand.
"It's my fucking car Sammy let me drive it."
"Cuddle with Cas in the backseat or something. I'm driving."
"Fine."
Dean walked to the passenger back seat and got in, mumbling under his breath. I just wanted to fucking drive. I'm fine. I can drive. Dean pouted in his head for a few moments. Oblivious to the crying Castiel he had acquired in his lap.
"Hey baby lift your head up for me it's okay." Dean softly said.
"Dean I can't. I can't without you I can't." Castiel sobbed.
"Hey Cassy, merrily we fall out of line out of line I'd fall anywhere with you I'm by your side swinging in the rain humming melodies we're not going anywhere until we freeze I'm not afraid anymore Cassy I'm not afraid."
"Your voice is beautiful please don't stop"
Dean rubbed Cassys head. He continued to sing. Dean wished he could help Cas. He knew he would die. And he knew he'd be okay. But he was afraid for Cas. He didn't know if he'd be able to hold it together. Dean finished his song. He noticed Cassy had fallen asleep. 10:21. It was a bit late. He was tired. Sammy had Cassys address in the GPS so he read the arrival estimated time. 11:37. Still one hour? Why was the city so far from his town. He just wanted to be in Cassys arms, in Cassys bed, in Cassys room.
Sam stared blankly at the road unable to process that his big brother was going to die. He looked in his rear view mirror and saw Dean and Cas asleep. They were almost to Castiels place. Sam pulled up to a two story house that was gorgeous. This can't be right. No offense to Cas but he didn't seem like he'd be able to afford this house.
"Aye Cas?" Sam shouted loud enough to wake the sleeping man in his backseat.
"Yeah?" Cas groggily responded.
"You sure you gave me the right address? I mean this is a mansion compared to anything I've see other college students own."
"Yeah I'm not the poorest person. This is my house. Dean baby, wake up we're home."
"Yay," Dean stretched and yawned and got out of the car heading towards Castiels door to open it for him. Cas beat him to it.
They all headed into the house with Castiel unlocking the garage door and then the door in the garage to enter the house.
"Pull the car in please then this button shuts it." Castiel said to Sam.
"Alright." Sam responded. He was so grateful to be staying with Cas in this mansion of a house.
Castiel took Dean to his bedroom with him and the second Cas and Dean layed down, they were both out with Dean on top of Cas. Cas didn't mind. He loved Dean. This was Deans favorite sleeping position. He knew that. And Dean needed his sleep.
Sam parked the car and wandered into the house finding his way to the guest room. He checked that everything was locked and turned out all the lights. Sam layed down and went to sleep. Crying, but he went to sleep.
