========================

Seven years in an orphanage, with no mother and a father who never loved you. Uncared for, unloved, unwanted. That was the life you lived, but you were used to it. The orphanage's Headmistress, made you work nonstop, and your knees were coloured with bruises, your hands with scrapes. But she didn't care. No one did. You were just the weird kid who kept seeing invisible people.

Yes, invisible people. At least, to their eyes. But you knew better. He was simply hiding from them. The boys and girls who mocked you daily for seeing "the guy with the bloody bandage". He would be there, every day outside of the building, seeming to be looking at you. But whenever you would tell the older kids, they would sneer and point, because when you looked, no one was there.

But he was real. You just needed to prove it to them. Then they would stop making fun of you. Right?

So, after a month and a half of planning on your dirty bed with another room full of parentless children, you were ready. You would finally show them that the man with the bloody bandage existed.

It was five thirty in the morning. Wake up call would be in half an hour. But you woke up early, because today, you were finally going to get some friends. You got up from bed and snuck to the window, which was conveniently right beside you, since no one wanted to sleep next to the ghost kid.

You finished setting up your trap: a spotlight. Well, you had set up your makeshift mostly harmless bear trap yesterday, where the man always stood. You had left it under some leaves, and you assumed he couldn't see it, since... well.

The spotlight was so the other girls could see it. They would finally believe you!

After half an hour, the Headmistress opened the door, yelling for everyone to get up. Slowly, the other people got up from bed, groaning and whining.

Thwack!

The trap went off!

"Yes!" you cheered. "Guys, I'm gonna show you that he's real! Come on!" You ran to the window, pushing past a few of the older boys in your haste.

"Let's go see the wimp be an idiot again," a girl sneered, but you ignored her. You stared out the window and turned on the spotlight, and saw....

"There isn't anything there. A squirrel's just stuck in... what is that, a big clothespin?" a boy scoffed. Your face fell as you realized he was right. A squirrel was struggling out of your trap, and then ran off.

"Thanks for wasting our time, stupid." The other kids laughed at you, as you hung your head in shame.

What was the point? You were always going to be the freak in the other kid's eyes. Why bother trying to make them see anything else?

These thoughts swarmed your head as you shuffled down to the small room with food and drinks, for breakfast. You grabbed a bruised apple and a juice box from the counter, and moped to your own little windowsill in the corner. What, did the little baby want a table? The wimp with the imaginary friends wanted people to talk to?

Freak.

Freak.

Freak.
