Day 9

"Ice, let's go play in the snow or something.  I'm bored," you complained, hopping on your boyfriend's lap.  He grunted in surprise and looked up from the paper he was writing.

"I'm in the middle of something, darling," he mumbled, quickly resuming where he left off.  You huffed, crossing your arms in annoyance.  He fidgeted, starting to get uncomfortable with you on his lap, but you didn't budge.  Finally, he sighed.

"Fine.  But only for a little bit, alright?" You got off him, and he stood up, putting his pen down on the coffee table in front of him.

"Fine, I won't bother you after this, I promise," you assured him, wrapping a scarf around your neck quickly as he nudged on a sweater.

"Good," he grumbled. "I need to finish off my writing."

"Aren't you almost done, Ice?  Anyway, it's not like you have to finish it in a certain amount of time," you snapped, starting to get annoyed at his dour mood. "Isn't it just your diary?"

"Is not," he scowled. "I need to write a letter to Host.  It's about some plans we have later."

"Why don't you just write him an email or something?" you scoffed.

"Host is many things, but he's still blind.  He can't really read braille on a screen," Ice retorted, holding up the note.  There wasn't anything on it except little holes.

"Well, when are these "plans" happening?" you asked.

"Sometime next month, I think.  He likes knowing things in advance, just so he can... well, talk about it," he sighed, still scowling at you angrily. "Just give me a break, all right?  I can't keep playing with you all the time like I'm taking care of a five-year-old."

"Well, excuse me if I just wanted to have fun in the snow with my boyfriend who has snow powers!" You glowered at the man, and he glared back.  The two of you were in a staring contest.

"How about you go away?  Just for a bit," he said slowly after a while. "That way, you can get your playtime, and it'll give me enough time for me to finish my letter."

"You're just kicking me out of the house?" you growled.

"Well, I wasn't planning to before, but that was before you decided to bother me every two minutes!" he shouted. "We both need to chill, so let's just give each other some space for a bit, huh?"

In a fit of rage, you turned towards the door without thinking. "Fine.  But don't expect me to ever do anything fun with you again." You slammed the door on your way out and, as you heard the door lock, you realized that you had forgotten the car keys inside the house.  There was absolutely no way you were going back in there to ask him, especially not when he locked the door.  There was also no chance you were walking to any mall since there wasn't one in walking distance.

"Am I really stuck in the front yard?" you grumbled to yourself, with a frown, still steaming from the fight you were in just a few minutes ago.

So you were stuck in the snow in your front yard, sitting in the frigid snow as it froze your legs.

If I'm going to be stuck here, I might as well do something with it, you thought to yourself.  Slowly, you got up, shaking your legs to get the blood unfrozen in your veins.  Then you saw how much snow was on the ground.  It was a good few inches high, maybe enough to build an average-sized snowman.  That's when you got an idea.

You started rolling the snow in a pattern to make sure you got as much snow as possible, and soon enough, with around half the yard desolate of a single snowflake, you had three snowballs, with each one smaller than the last.

"Now to build the body," you grinned, starting to forget about the disagreement you and Ice had before.  Before you knew it, all three snowballs were stacked atop each other, making the body and the head. "All I need now are the details."

You picked up a few twigs on the ground and stuck them in the middle part of the snowman, then got some rocks and stuck them in for eyes and a small mouth.  A pinecone you found near the road made his nose, and you unwrapped the scarf around your neck and placed it on his.

"There we go," you sighed, placing your hands on your hips in admiration for your own work.

Suddenly, the snowman moved.  As if it had gained a life of his own, the head turned towards you.

"Happy birthday!" the thing exclaimed, even though its mouth wasn't moving.

"It's not my birthday," you stated plainly at the talking snowman, unsurprised even though a snowman suddenly becoming alive wasn't exactly a natural occurrence. "What do you want, Ice?"

The snowman suddenly burst into a heavy snowfall right in front of you, getting snowflakes all over your hair as the eyes, nose, and mouth of your creation fell to the ground with a quiet thump.  Your scarf that you had wrapped around the snowman started to drift towards the ground, but a hand shot out of the small flurry, catching the article of clothing in a tight grip.  The mini-blizzard turned into a light snowfall, and when all the snow was gone, your boyfriend was standing in front of you, holding your scarf out to you with a sad smile.

"I'm sorry, (Y/N)," he sighed as you snatched the scarf from him. "I guess I just got... I just got a bit out of control.  It was my fault."

"Who says it wasn't?" you barked, still angry at him.  He shrugged, looking at the snow as his endeavour to be forgiven came up fruitless.

"I'm sorry.  I didn't mean to get angry at you.  I just got a bit hot-headed, but I shouldn't have taken it out on you."

You sighed, pinching the bridge of your nose as you screwed your eyes shut in slight annoyance.

"Look, it's not that I'm angry at you.  It's just that I always hate it when it's a perfectly fine day outside and you insist on staying in.  I get it, I really do, being inside all the time, but I want to spend more time with you, and I feel like that's just been happening less and less nowadays."

"I know.  I... I've been noticing it, too," he admitted. "I don't know how I was going to bring it up, but I want to spend more time with you, too.  I guess I just wasn't ready when you asked, and I was thinking about something else." He took you by the hand and pulled you in so his chest was touching yours. "I still love you.  You know that, right?"

You nodded, placing your head on his chest. "I know.  I love you, too."

"Good." His arm snaked around your waist, and the two of you stood there as the snow began to fall again.
