Dan sprinted back towards Phil, knowing there will only be seconds until he let's go.

'What are you doing?'

3...

'You're supposed to be bad!'

2...

'Not GOOD!'

"Fuck off!" Dan barked to himself.

Dan lunged for the boy, grabbing his wrist just as his hand slipped.

'You're a fucking idiot, Dan..'

<{*Phil Lester*}>

Phil looked up to see Dan's dark eyes staring back, inexpressive.

Did Daniel Howell just...save him?

Phil gaped at the fact - this is Daniel Howell, right? The leader of the delinquents and the most dangerous kid in school? Why would he save him? Why would he think about it in the first place?

"Quit staring at me and help me out, I can't heave you up here myself you twat." Dan's eyebrows furrowed, his eyes narrowing into a small glare.

Phil snapped out of his trance, throwing his arm up to grip the edge of the roof. Dan pulled up until Phil was able to haul himself up. From there, Phil was able to take control, meaning Dan let go of his wrist and stood up.

Phil knelt, breathing slowly and deeply as he let his strong mind catch up with everything. It was then that he could hear the younger years, Year 11s and even some teachers cheering. He smiled fondly.

"You need to be more fucking careful when you're up here, nerd. Next time you fall off here I'm not going to be your saviour..." Dan warned, walking off to grab his bat, which was a good 15 feet away, before turning back and heading onto the cafeteria roof.

"Hey, Dan..." Phil wanted to ask why he'd saved him so badly, but knew he'd either get no reply or - in a much worse case scenario - a baseball bat to the face, "...Thanks.."

Again, expressionless, Dan nodded a tad; jumping down onto the Year 11's Cafeteria balcony. Everyone was staring at him.

"What?" He grimaced at them, "I'm not all that bad..."

And with that, Dan walked through the Cafeteria and disappeared.

<{**}>

Phil had decided to stay away from the roof for now. After all, if everything happened like it did, with everyone below him and no one to pull him up but Dan - he knew it wouldn't be Dan saving him again. He made that pretty clear himself.

What confused Phil though, was what he heard Dan say after he jumped down onto the balcony...

"What? I'm not all that bad..."

Honestly, if he was all that bad, he wouldn't have helped Phil up so that kind of made sense. But then there was the day before, now the other day, Dan had slammed him backwards into a tree.

Why would he do that and then save Phil the next day?

So far, he had seen Dan a few times the day after he fell from the roof; walking through the corridor while Phil was in Geography, him walking through the corridor and seeing Dan in English and Dan jumping from the roof to the balcony after lunch. That was about it really.

Yesterday, it was like Dan was a completely different person. Not many things could explain why the school's most terrifying student would save the Head Boy - especially when he hated Phil's guts. The main two possibilities being either Dan knew he'd regret it and the blame would probably go on him or...
