It had been a week since you had last seen Connor, since he was on a vacation with his family. You both had been texting all week, but it still wasn't the same as getting to see him everyday. Besides, he had told you that, "Kayaking is hell." You had gone to a cast party for the end of your summer theatre program that day, and Connor had told you he wasn't able to make it.
Although you were disappointed that he couldn't make it, you understood since it was a long drive on the back from where he was. You were talking to your best friend, and you had happened to look towards the door, when you saw a familiar figure come into view. Your eyes went wide, as you saw him look around the room.
He almost instantly found you in the crowd, and started running towards you. "Connor!" You shouted, a smile coming to your face. When he had finally gotten to your group of friends, he didn't even say anything, he just wrapped his arms around you. This shocked you at first, but you smiled and hugged him back, even though your face was turning red.
Now here's the kicker: None of your theatre friends had ever met him before, and you had never shown them a picture of him either. So its an understatement that they were shocked that you had a crush on your childhood best friend, the tall guy with long brown hair, who wore mostly black, with the occasional pastel colored shirt.
Also known as Connor Murphy.
He held you tight, like you'd disappear into thin air if he didn't. Now, when you had come to this cast party, you had expected to talk to your friends, maybe have to explain to a guy that you weren't interested, (there were quite a few of those), eat some food, and leave. That was all. The last thing you had expected was for Connor fucking Murphy to make a big reunion scene.
In front of all your friends no less.
You heard your friend clear her throat, and you turned to face her. "So, I'm assuming this is the Connor guy you've told us about?" He looked down at you, genuinely confused. "Oh, you've been talking about me?" You shot your friend a, "Shut up before I make you," type look, but she kept talking anyway.
"Oh ya! She's gone on and on about you." She looked between the two of you, now standing next to each other. "Are you guys dating or something?" You both stared at each other, both of your faces red. "Um-" Your face was heating up rapidly, and you didn't want to make the situation even more awkward.
But Connor had a different idea.
"Ya, we are."
He stated this very matter of factly, and you went into a state of shock. Your friends started laughing, and your eyes went wide. This only made your friends laugh harder. You looked at Connor, in between wanting to kill him and wanting to kiss him. You were leaning towards the first option at the moment.
You took a deep breath, trying to steady your racing heart beat. "Connor, can I talk to you for a minute? Alone?" You noticed that Connor seemed very calm about the whole thing, but little did you know, his heart was racing faster than it ever had in his life, and he was internally screaming. Pretty loudly for that matter.
But he did his best to look cool and collected, since he couldn't risk scaring you off. "Yeah, um, sure." He followed you into the hallway, as the two walked far away from the party venue, eventually making it out the back door. There was a small gazebo, and there was a relatively small bench in front of it.
There were a bunch of little flower arrangements, and a fountain they put in the year before. You could throw change in, and make a wish. But all the proceeds went to the venue, so that was a nice thought. You sat down on the bench, and Connor followed. "This whole thing seems like a scene out of a shitty summer romance movie." He said.
